Default Ghosts & Wet Sheet Transfers

If you spend any time on this board, you can't help becoming interested in ghosts and wet sheet transfers. Now in the old days, these were considered condition flaws that detracted from the value of cards and were caused by bleeding of ink from the front image. Perhaps not true, as I have learned here.

I wanted to see what you all thought about these two cards from my collection. Sorry, only one T206 and a Sport King.

I am not so much interested in value. I am trying to understand if what I have would be considered desirable to collectors who look for such things. Thanks.

Thanks Chris. So, if you were looking to buy, would you see the backs as a plus, a negative or indifferent? Again, not really interested in value but desirability.

Probably more interested in opinions from normal folks. Not that there's anything wrong with being a freak geek.

Well, I'm a normal folk, not yet a freak geek, but who knows(?). I love looking at them. My desirableness for going out of my way to own one is low, but the fact that I would like to have a couple for the heck of having them is eager*. If I were going to buy a Cobb red port, and had a choice between a "normal" one or the WST of the one you posted, I would overwhelmingly (= desirability) choose the former.

* eager < desire

edited to add: Your Cobb is really cool and since I already have a normal one I'd want yours too, as one of the couple that I'd own.

Default Wst...

Ronald....

Great post..

As you probably know, I am extremely biased to the error/freak T206...but , I always try to give the real deal...

Your WST on the T206 is the Background to the "assuming" portrait of the player.....this is one of the more "common" wst....a cool error none the less, but in terms of added value to the card, this one would only add a smaller premuim...I know you did't really want to know the "value", but "value" is HIGHLY correlated to DESIRABILITY....(btw...is it a red background on the front??) that layer was applied more heavily I beleive in the T206 set....

"THE UNWRITTEN RULE OF THUMB" is the more difficult/cool/weird/unique/one of a kind/crazy / odd/dramatic/ correlated to unique print process/ or just plain DRAMATIc.....the "cooler" the error ....HENCE...the more DESIRABLE....correlated directly to value or price....

example...

"common wst" (as yours), not very defined, ect, ect added value maybe $30 bux to the card...

An overprinted "ghost" such as this Weimer...10K to the card....

there is a huge range or error value / desirability in the T206 set, and many are left for the market to decide....and it is trending positively..

one man's trash is another man's treasure(btw...I will take all or any of those ugly garbage T206 printer scrap)

Chris,

next post is for you my friend
