new low for the ebay authenticity thing
So a guy has a BIN of 500 on a card, which was way too high. I make an offer in the 300s and he accepts. But because of his original price, a 300+ card now needs to go to the authenticator before it can come to me. Meanwhile it appears to me the program is definitely slowing down a bit, taking a day or maybe two more than originally.

How dare those A-Holes do something to try to stop scammers if it takes a couple extra days.

It's useless for graded cards. The above card is graded.

Don't they send them to PSA? The place that never makes a mistake and everyone working there is WAY smarter than us?

I would like to know how many tampered slabs they have identified to date. My guess is zero.

+1 -- some reporting on how much fraud they have prevented would be terrific.

They go to CSG, which does not know its A from its elbow. I just had THREE cards rejected as altered, when none were, and SGC graded them all with numerical grades. It is a nightmare for sellers. Fine for buyers, I guess, other than if cards get rejected them and they actually wanted them. |

I bought a PSA graded card on eBay for over $500 a few weeks ago and the card I bought didnt go through eBays authentication process. It was mailed directly to me within a few days I had received it. I was under the impression anything graded over $500 would have to go through this new process.

Going back to the eBay listing, I do see the term set break listed in the title. Yeah, makes no sense to me as well.

Just worked a deal with an eBay seller and had him put, set break in the title just so I wouldnt have to wait for the cards.
I believe it should be a seller option and or buyers option to have the eBay authentication rather than the preset rules triggering the authentication. The the rules can stand but the seller gets to decide if should be authenticated to prevent returns and the buyers have the option if it is a suspect seller or card. |

I was told by an eBay customer service representative that if the card is going to a PO Box, it will not go through the the authenticity guarantee process.

I just received one earlier this week that had the authenticity guarantee with a generic listing of just the card and grade that was shipped directly to me in 4 days. I did have a choice of sending it to the ebay vault and not having to pay sales tax. Has anyone that have their cards shipped to a PO box had cards that had to go through the process? I just got one back from PSA today.
Here's a quandary: how to scan it without destroying the baggie? The labels obscure a good portion of the back of the card. If I wanted to leave it in the sealed baggie (spoiler alert: I don't), I couldn't see part of the card, ever. So I guess if I want to rely on their service, I will never get to see the full card? Also, the baggies are as baggy as board shorts, so for display they don't even look good.

Would you trust it? Someone could tamper with it and put a much worse card (or even worst, a fake one) in the package, then where would we be?

I just bought a newly graded modern card for $190 plus tax and it has to be shipped to the authenticator. SMH.

I can see the value of the raw review, if done right by qualified people.

I just bought a $600 raw card from Greg Morris on ebay. But it didn't need to be sent for authentication. Does GM have a deal with ebay to avoid this?

I would trust Greg Morris as much as CSG. Not that anyone is perfect.

Awesome! The buy on approval approach. Love it. Anyway up until this AG program, in almost all instances a buyer had the right to return for a refund.

I am told that all a seller has to do is use the magic words set break and the guarantee won't apply. What a joke.

I could be wrong, but I believe that Greg Morris and perhaps one other well respected large seller had an exception from this program from the very beginning.

This may be old news on this thread, but my first entanglement with authentication (graded) has taught me that combined shipping is not allowed. May be petty complaining about shipping of $350+ cards, but what a waste shipping multiple cards separately, instead of in one package. Good for USPS, I suppose.
