1933 Goudey Advice
I have wanted to start a collection of 1933 Goudey baseball for quite some time. I have always loved the artwork, colors and player selection. I am thinking of going after a SGC 40 or SGC 50 set. Besides the obivious big cards any hurdles to know about, SP's, tougher commons, etc. I know this is one of the easier sets to find, just checking on any surprises. Also if anyone wants to post some pics of their favorites, always love to see some good ones. Thanks Ralph

I'm not building the set, but I have picked up a few HOFers here and there. I love the cards for the same reasons quoted above. They look great in the SGC holders with the black gaskets. Here are the 5 that I own.
You might want to ask Rob Miller (robextend) as I know that he is only a few cards away from finishing his set. |

That's the set I started. I think I'm down to about 100 with most of those being commons. I'm guilty of not spending much time or money on it the past couple of years....just busy busy busy with life, wife, kids. haha
When I started it I picked up the Ruths/Gehrigs/LaJoie in the beginning or close to it. My logic at that point was that the prices for them would likely do nothing but climb higher and higher. I'm doing my set in all PSA4 except for the Ruths and Lajoie which are too cost prohibitive for me. I have the Ruths all in 2 and Lajoie in 3. I've found that when I first started the set that they were abundant on Ebay , auction style. Now there are usually very few of them available via true auction. I really need to get back on this set! Here is a link to some of the ones I have pics of. /http://s51.photobucket.com/albums/f3...1933%20Goudey/ Here is a link to my set... http://www.psacard.com/PSASETREGISTR...px?s=1316&ac=1

Goudey
I have found it harder to attain many of the Hofers in the 33 and 34 sets compared to the T206's. They have become very tough to acquire via auction as of late. They seem to be drying up a bit. Great set, but gets frustrating sometimes because of the cards being tough to come by. Also the resale is not so great as compared with the strong market for T206.

I'm in agreement that it's an amazing set. I'd love to get to work on it. Unfortunately, I already outspend my collecting budget on 206 HOFers and Vintage Basketball.
Awesome cards Goose. I think that Iron Horse is one of the most basic yet attractive cards in the hobby.

Hall of Famer
It's the only one I own, but one of my favorite cards. I remeber seeing old photos of his follow through and the card captures it perfectly.

33g
I also took the plunge into the 33G set, started about a year ago... Im low grade all the way ( G F P ), I also need a ton of commons( apporx 100+), I actually find the stars/HOFers more readlly avail. then many commons. The lesser name HOFers ( Ripely,Manush,Ferrell,Cronin) can be had for under 40, the name HOFers ( Hornsby,Hubbell,Ott,Foxx,etc)..always seem to be in the 50-75 range. and the big two ( Ruth/Gehrig)..well..I dont worry about those yet...if I get that far..I could live with a reprint in that spot for a while.
PS - if anyone has any extra avail for trade, let me know...I have a handful incl HOFers, and a load of other 30s cards incld HOFers..all lower grade Ralph |
