Closing Tonight: Love of the Game 10th Anniversary Auction
Hi Everyone:
I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving, and is settled in, relaxed, and ready for the close of our 10th Anniversary auction. Extended bidding begins at 9PM Eastern tonight. Please note: This auction is very small, in terms of number of lots. While there are no guarantees, we think that the reduced number of lots could translate to an early close. If you're a person that doesn't tune in to auction closings until midnight, please keep an eye on this one, because it's very possible that it could wind up closing organically before the double OT session even begins. Again, there are no guarantees, but it's a distinct possibility. A couple of important items I wanted to point out: Lot #1 is an incredibly rare 1923-24 Billiken card of Oscar Charleston. This is an incredible card of one of the greatest players in baseball history, and it very rarely makes itself available for public sale. Lot #22 is a 1945 Happy Chandler contract to be Commissioner of Baseball. Chandler replaced Judge Landis, and was instrumental in the integration of the game. There are 19 important signatures on this contract, including Branch Rickey, and to me, a document with the signatures of both Chandler and Rickey is of extreme importance. This is a fantastic piece. Lot #8 is an incredible scrapbook that includes a signed photo of Babe Ruth. But it's much more than that - it chronicles the attempts of super-fan Jack Marcus to locate Ruth's sister, and after he located her, she gave him this photo that Ruth signed for HER. She signed the back and personalized it to him. It's a great backstory, with terrific provenance. There are tons of other excellent items in the auction, including a great selection of vintage photos, a complete run of ticket stubs from every Brooklyn Dodgers/New York Yankees World Series game, a host of items from the estate of Barney Pelty, a beautiful 1951 Bowman Willie Mays, and a number of gorgeous original owner cards from the 1930s. Please visit https://bid.loveofthegameauctions.com/Lots/Gallery if you're so inclined, and good luck to all the bidders and consignors! Thanks, -Al |
