I’ve been waiting patiently for someone to start this thread. Why not me? This is always one of my favorite posts. There have been some amazing pickups posted this past year. Please post your favorite addition(s) to your collection from 2024. Happy New Years!

I’ll start it off. Original concrete facade piece from Forbes Field. I estimate less than 10 of these still exist and I was excited to add this one since I sold off my complete arches a while ago. This is a heavy piece, 80-100 lbs cast concrete.

Wow that Forbes facade is an incredible piece! Rob I know you added to your amazing Giants collection! I will go with this as my favorite 2024 pickup. In order to obtain this Roberto Clemente game used bat I completed a large trade with the Clemente Museum. I paid dearly and let some pieces go that I never believed I could. Nonetheless those pieces I parted with are where they always belonged.
This U-1 is from 1965-68 and measures 36” and weighs 38oz. Roberto won two batting titles and an MVP during this period. It has lots of use and great patina. Clemente’s #21 is light but legible and he wrote a few details in pencil on the knob. Best of all he scored the barrel with many long groves that are clearly visible on the face of the bat. I met up with John Taube at the National and he gave it a PSA 9. I believe this is my nicest pickup ever.

This is probably my favorite find of the last part of the year...1970 Bench gamer from his first MVP year with a ton of use...will add a grade next year.

Great stuff already posted here! Beautiful Clemente bat Mike. I can't imagine the pieces you gave up to add such a thing but it seems it was well worth it!
Running your hands over those grooves must be as close to time traveling as you can get. I suppose that's why we collect memoribilia. Getting as close to the time and players as possible and honoring the history. Here are my favorite pick ups: 1950 Carribean Series official scorecards with the first games being autographed by the starting 9 including Willard Brown, Vic Power, Luis Olmo, and Dan Bankhead. ![]() ![]() ![]() A scored program and ticket of Satchel Paige's three hit shutout on August 20th, 1948. It set the record for the most attended night game with 78,382. I'm thrilled the program also notes this. ![]() This Doby, Miñoso, and Easter snapshot is from 1951 spring training. These three were forced to live apart from the team in Arizona. I love how happy they are in the photo despite still having to endure segregation outside of baseball. ![]() |

There are a few that really stand out (all in the last few months). Here's one of them, 1896 Sandham Photogravure. It has been on my wish list for some time.

From one of the Official Scorer's at Camden Yards (who was assigned Cal Ripken Jr.'s 2130th Consecutive Game), his personal score sheets from that evening:

I won this snapshot of Roy Campanella in an eBay auction that closed on Christmas Eve. I was astounded to discover from the back of the photo that it was taken two days after Campy's major league debut.

I had a couple of 2024 favorites…
1929-31, Lew Fonseca game used bat. Fonseca was the 1929 American League batting champion and finished his career with an overall .316 batting average. A very rare, 1930’s N.Y. Giants, 3/4 size pennant. |
