Need help identifying vintage baseball cap

Does anyone know what baseball team this cap represents? I have reason to believe that it may have been a Negro League team but I haven't been able to match it to any team.

Actually, it looks like a modern attempt to create a Newark Peppers' cap that has the city monogram on it to make it more sellable. The home and road caps worn by the team in their only season, 1915, did not have the monogram. The N within a circle was on the breast of the home jersey.
