A huge 70's 80's 90's collection.
What is the best way to maximize profits? How would you tackle this? Thanks |

Did you post that on Beckett as well. I was reading that thread earlier. Everyone has an idea, and everyone is correct so the real answer is however you are most comfortable.
And one of the answers was bulk out the lesser material and, as you pointed out, take your time with the better and cooler items. But you need to do whatever you are comfortable with. Rich

I had the same type of thing. After weeding and weeding and weeding I came up with exactly ONE card worth grading. An 89 ud griffey jr which was a 9/10 candidate. I sold the rest for what I had paid for it . In hindsight, it was a terrible idea and a total waste of time. Though it was just my experience!

Hey no I didn't post this on Beckett. Just got it last night. I was wondering if I should just chuck commons or make Team piles. Stuff like that.

Unless they are full sets just go through and pull the star cards and throw away/give away the rest.
Those type of lots are fun to go through as a collector but $ wise as a dealer for resale they are almost completely worthless if you consider your time sorting them worth anything. |

dump the 1980's and later cards and use the boxes for shipping
they are worth more than the cards |

Save the 70's and graded and take your time with them. Pull out 80's and 90's rookies and error cards, gradable stuff and such, sell unopened sets in bulk if any and Craig's list the remainder commons/junk or sell to a flea market vendor, or donate...there are guys on Craig's list who just want 80's and up commons, some I have told me they sell them to re-packagers for stuff you see in Target or Walmart...

For a while I did pretty well selling lots of 400 commons on Ebay. That's what I could fit in one of the small priority boxes. That went pretty flat after a while. Why I don't know, as there were plenty of people selling 1cent cards for a dollar plus 3 dollars shipping (and they're still there?!)
I actually need a bunch of commons for some of those years, and I chase some weird varieties that are a nuisance to spot and explain. I'm also not afraid of buying bulk if it's cheap enough. |
