The signed, notarized letter from the original owner says the ball was purchased and signed in late 1946/early 1947. The Harridge stamping on the ball is only from 1946 and 1947. Does anyone have a Ruth autograph that looks like this one? I'm asking in all seriousness, as I've seen a couple of others and I'm always trying to expand my knowledge.

That "R" is a train wreck. Not sure if real or not but the R would definatly turn me off as a buyer.

With the juice, that baseball is currently at $108,000, with four days to go.

I take it by the note that it has a reserve of $90K before the vig and it has not met reserve. Since PSA/DNA says it's real, it has to be right? Ugly "R" but pretty ball overall and on official ball. I'd rather spend a LOT less on a slightly less popular ball with a better "R" but that would be me...............

Even if I had that kind of money to piss away I would never buy a white ball with a vibrant Ruth signature. Ever. Because I would never believe that it is real no matter how many "experts" opined as to its authenticity. Tom C |

Who in right mind would pay 108,000 for such an ugly Ruth? The R really looks like it just suddenly stopped then restarted. Not like any ball I have ever seen. Reserve not met and has a "projected value" of 150K? Yeah wont hold my breath for that bid.

Here is another 46-47 Harridge ball with a similar Ruth. This ball has more signatures, including a couple of faded ones made with a different pen.
This particular type of Ruth signature has always bothered me, partly because the odd 'R' often comes with a skinny 'b' and sometimes a skinny 'a'. Was it a new signature that Ruth came up with late in life? Maybe I will go dig around and try to find a 'definitely real' Ruth from 1946 or 1947 to compare with. Thanks for your input - I was dying to discuss this.

I wonder how many more 46-47 Harridge balls 'he' signed in that style, that are in pristine shape?

Reading about all the fake Ruth items out there and all of the "Haul of shame" stuff I would be scared to even concider a Ruth autograph if it was anything other than a check unless I saw the babe sign it right in front of me...lol and even then I would ask to see some form of ID...
