Above is a link to a story I’ve posted on my site SportsAntiques.com, about my trip to the May 2011 Brimfield Antiques Fair in Brimfield MA. The story contains 16,521 words and is 16 text pages and 33 photo pages. Along with the written account of my experience; there are 1000 photos of what I saw at Brimfield.

On the same trip I also visited the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield MA and have posted about 189 photos of it

I also visited Harvard and Yale universities and photographed both their trophy rooms and have posted them in the story. About 140 Harvard photos and about 200 Yale photos

I also posted numerous photos of the Harvard Square area including about 45 of the Harvard memorabilia in Peirce and Leavitt Tobacco Shop on Harvard Square.

I also visited the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. Although the MFA would not allow me to post the photos I took; I give three pages of detailed observations of works in the American wing.

Great writeup as usual Carlton. Especially love the Harvard trophy room tour - that case of trophy baseballs is amazing! My dad and I attended the spring Brimfield show as well - It was our first Brimfield, and overall it was fun exploring the fields, but in general had the same overall sentiments as you. I made several purchases, but didn't see anything earth-shattering. We must have passed eachother at some point at Mays and J&J. I saw that cycling tri-fold sign on my initial walkthrough, went back to the booth like 5 minutes later to look at it again and it was gone. Nice pickup.

Great write-up, I enjoyed it!

Since I started working at Harvard a few years ago, I have enjoyed adding some great pieces of early Harvard collectibles to my collection. I have seen some of the items in Murr which you photographed, but wasn't aware of all you saw! I think I will need to give Renny a call and check it out one day on a lunch break!

BTW- you took some photos around Harvard Square, including one of a JP Licks ice cream shop. Did you happen to go into the unassuming tobacco shop next store? It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior is covered with original (and large!) photos of early Harvard teams from the 19th century, along with many football game balls from the 1890s. It might be my favorite place in the square, and no one knows about it!

Scott, Thanks very much for the heads up on the Peirce and Leavitt Tobacco Shop but I got ya covered already....it's on page 8, link above...Plus at the end of the write up I posted a bunch of photos of it on a seperate page....I stumbled onto it by accident.

Carlton - great reading. After so many years of telling you about my Brimfield hunts, it's nice that you were able to finally go. If anyone I know needed to experience "America's Attic"....it was you. Although I missed this year, I felt like I was there after reading your story. Thanks for always keeping the hobby enlightened with your adventures. See you next week in Chicago!

Carlton, I should have known you would have found the tobacco shop! And I read most of your pages the other day, but must have somehow missed Page 8 with the tobacco store pictures. What a great store!

Thank you Carlton and Scott for this great thread and the article on Brimfield.
I live about 30 minutes east of there and in my younger days I'd walk the entire event for days.
My first Brimfield event was around 1977 and among my finds that first event were a Superman un-opened box, a bunch of Buckner's Gold Coin cards, some Mayos, a good amount of Tobacco cards from N-172 through T-206, a nice pile of Goudeys and a wonderful group of Hartland Statues.
I went with my Mom, Dad, brother and sister and I brought $ 1000, and had enough money to buy all these cards and memorabilia plus my Father and I split a deal on 5 turn of the century gold pocket watches! Dad and I bought and sold pocket watches for over 30 years after this event!
The greatest find from this Brimfield show was an 1888 Waltham gold pocket watch that had the Boston base ball players around the dial at various positions. My parents gave it to me in 1978 when I graduated High School.
What an incredible item!
My days get long being in the house most every day, so I rely on Net 54 for great articles such as this one to keep my spirits up.
