I have the 8800F but that scanner has advanced CCD technology so it should be no problem scanning graded cards.

I bought a new 5600F a few months ago--very easy to use, great scans & CCD scanning element, which is what you want for graded cards or anything that isn't absolutely flat. Do NOT buy one w/ CIS scan element

Just bought it during my lunch hours.

I have a question, how do you scan only the card and not the entire scan surface ?

After you put your card or item on the scanner bed, click preview. Once that is done and you see your preview on your computer screen, you should be able to use your mouse to grab a white box (crosshair) in the corner. Click this and drag it to size around your item (you should see a dotted line which represents the border or edge your scanner will go to). You can either grab a corner and resize the scanning area at once, or you can grab each side and shrink it down to fit.

Hope that helps. If that doesn't make sense, I can do a screenshot later tonight when I get home pointing to what I'm describing.

Have had my 5600F for over a year now and love it. I scan most cards at 600 DPI to save and resize to post. Fast, easy and clear scans.
I use the ArcSoft software and ScanGear software that was included. My biggest advice is to test one or two cards with a dozen different settings and find one you like. Top open vs. top down too.

Nelson try without the baggie on the slab and if you push the card to the top of the scanner it will be straight.

Nelson, could you post a pic of the same card with your old scanner for a comparison?

Default canoscan 5600F question

Hey Scott. The primary difference was the 9000 has a more modern LED light vs a cathode bulb type. The LED scanned much faster but more importantly the LED gave consistent colors where I was having issues with the 5600 as the light warmed up.

The LED element should outlast a bulb and use less power. Great for those Seattle granola types

Default hated my old scanners

bought a cannon 5600f based on what had been said on this site a few months ago. It takes great scans on flat items, slabs, and even some 3D items - cover open or closed. Only thing I haven't scanned is a magazine print. Thanks to all that posted.

Scott,

I got mine used. It came with the power cord, usb cable and the slide template. No software, but the Twain driver is available on Canon's website. Plus, I have Photoshop, so I really didn't need any of the bundled software, though the Toolbox software is available on Canon's site, too.

I got s 5600F a couple of days ago based on what I read here. I upgraded my whole computer system over the last weekend and my old scanner wasn't compatible (no drivers made either) for Windows 8.1. , which I don't care for but that is another story. I just posted this in the boxing area but I do like the way this scanner works so far (after only a couple of scans) . It's really fast compared to my old one... and I thought it was good .

I love the 9000f - as Chris said, very fast scans, plus I can scan negatives and slides. The software is somewhat complicated (to me anyway) but I think I have it figured out. Look for new, improved runscott scans soon.

Probably 3-4 times faster than the Epson it replaced, and much more reliable. Well worth the extra $70 or so.
