Here is Christy Mathewson throwing out the first pitch of the clinching game 5 of the 1905 World Series. I wrote more about it here:

No idea who these guys are, other than "Uncle Bill is the catcher".

I could not find an Edgerton Maroons team in Ohio during that time, there was one however in Edgerton, Kansas. Anything on the back of your postcard?

Yep, there's newspaper accounts of him playing for Telling in 1905 but couldn't find anything about him playing for Edgerton or even a team called the Edgerton Maroons. You don't have any research like that do you?
I love early pre mlb images of players is why I ask. |

I don't find the eyes and eyebrows to be a match, and I think Duffy's left ear is more angular on its edge than the rounded ear of the man on your postcard.

Paid too much for this postcard many years ago because I and the seller were convinced Ty Cobb was the fifth person from the left. I was later told by a Cobb expert that it was not him, but I still held out hope. That is, until today when I did some research and found a clipping of this photo in the Detroit Free Press from May 8, 1910 https://www.newspapers.com/clip/4581...it-free-press/. The McGraw Tigers were a local independent team but "Cobb" is actually "Anderson, catcher". It must have been interesting living in Detroit in 1910 and "kind of" looking like Cobb. But I probably should have used my money on something else 30 years ago (or whenever it was that I bought this).

Here is one more image of Duffy, from 1910, looking nearly straight at the camera. It's clearly not him in the Providence photo; I'm wondering if this is some other Providence team, not the Providence (Rhode Island) Grays.

I would question a lot of these player ID's without supporting evidence vs "just looks like him."

There is no way that those are the same players. I do not understand how anyone could possibly say otherwise. Quite a few of the identifications in this thread seem like stretches to me.

Here's a fun one for you guys. I have no idea if this is Cobb and family, but the resemblance to Cobb, his wife, and all the kids is pretty amazing. It's also in Detroit and the postcard was made by the United News Company which was located in Detroit. The white border cards date from 1915-1930. Is it Cobb? Some day I hope a photo pops up to corroborate this but until then it's speculation.

I don't actively collect these anymore, but I saved some from when I did. These are my rppc teams that I have not posted in the Baseball Ladies or Native American threads. I see about seven future HOFers (just kidding). But if anyone wants to look for famous ears, I can post larger scans of individual cards.

Mine has no printed description on the back and is unused (no postmark, message, etc.) and the location of the team was not something I could tell based on the photo. Thanks.
