there are quite a few advertising auction companies - behemoths and smaller specialty houses. High end material usually ends up there. In the northeast there are also advertising and paper shows of all kinds. Finally there's eBay. MOST OF THE TIME - interesting, aesthetically pleasing, and rarely encountered items won't fall through the cracks in any of those venues although walking a paper or trade card show would likely be the best place for a "find" in terms of valuation. The good news is there's all kinds of ways to collect endless categories at all price levels. The patient and knowledgeable buyer with a PLAN will get the most enjoyment whether significant and beautiful pieces or a run of magazine ads.

Interestingly enough, I've accumulated more than 2/3rd's of my tobacco related memorabilia/collection from Ebay through the years.
If your patient and know what to search for, many quality items are out there and will pop up.

Very interesting, Tony
Most of my stuff pictured in this thread has been acquired from the numerous Antique shops here in Pennsylvania and up in the Cooperstown area. In the future, I'll have to concentrate on ebay....as you say. TED Z . Last edited by tedzan; 01-17-2017 at 11:20 AM. Reason: Correct typo. |

Excited to pick up this piece. It's a paper advertising poster that has been mounted on cardboard. It's quite large - almost 30 inches in size. Obvious condition issues, but I haven't sen another.

still a nice piece. I would say around the time of the Paris Exposition. In the album there is a very similar banner on their parade float. Also take note of the slightly more smiling old planter than the earliest 1880 depictions of their famous icon.........

Thanks! I will check as soon as I receive the box. It was described as 1883 so I'm thinking that's where this date came from.

Thank you Michael |

Michael-
Great box. I also have a Home Run cigar box with some different graphics. Although a few proofs of this label exist, I believe this is the only complete cigar box known. It, too, is dated 1883 (see photos below). - Jon

Brent and Jon,
Thanks for the kind words on the cigar box. Fantastic box you have yourself there Jon. Like I believe I mentioned earlier, cigar boxes are new territory for me and liking the action scene, am glad I pursued this one. You guys understand the rarity of these better than I do but the only one I could find through a quick google search was of this exact box someone previously pinned on pinterest. You see these in cardboard form quite often, but never made of wood. The still hinges and front hasps are quite heavy duty and ornate. Measures 6" x 10".
Displays removable wooden trays as well. Makes for a great T206 companion piece! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

is there a cancel stamp that can be read? Nice no matter what. I'd love to have one in my collection.
Great GQ box Jon! Hammered at a very fair price. I've seen them sell from 750. - 3000.! Quite a special "carton". Mine is prominently displayed. Maybe time for another Jerry Spillman et all debate about which packs might have come from which carton? |

Very excited to add this 1912 Cracker Jack box to my collection! It's not the 1913-1918 box that contained prizes including baseball cards in them but there's still only a handful confirmed to survive.
