Actually, two.
Since I started my quest more than five years ago to reassemble his collection, I've joined Ancestry.com and used several other places to find out as much about him as I could. But none of them ever had any photos, other than a website that specializes in images of grave markers, where I found he and wife Thelma's markers in Gainesville. But yesterday, during one of my frequent "scan Google for anything new about Howe McCormick" searches, a website came up that listed the Alachuan year book for 1913 (Gainesville High School). He was listed as a member of the class of '16, which basically means he was a 16-year-old freshman. The first image was just a class photo, with no real order to who was who in the photo. But the orchestra photo listed him as the trombone player, which made it easy to figure out which one he was in both images. Unfortunately, that is the only year he appeared in any yearbook. By 1915, his younger sister Bessie was listed as "pre-shool member", which I take to mean either middle school or junior high. Her photo is definitely not what we would consider pre-school today. But finally a face to associate with the 231 cards I've been able to reassemble. Thanks to Adam (gradedcardman) for the addition of #231 earlier this week. ![]() ![]() |

Ed have you ever found any relatives of his and talked with them about Howe and this collection? Last edited by wonkaticket; 06-26-2013 at 02:28 PM. |

When I first saw this I wondered who the hell was Howe McCormick? Never heard of him. After looking him up and discovering it was a backstamp it suddenly hit me. I have one. Probably about the 3rd T206 I got back around 1974-75.
It's faint and I still have it in my collection. Never tried to find a better Goode. ![]()

please let me know. I'll keep my eye out for a Goode or better. Or another Hindu if that would work. I know there are a lot more out there and this is a prime example. Didn't know Wilbur existed until you post. Another exciting discovery.

Funny. Ed - congratulations! I love it, just read your posting to my wife and said" this is collecting at it's finest". I didn't post in another thread a few months back but I agree that we almost have a responsibility to make sure all 'howe' cards get to your collection. I wish you had a picture of yourself when you were searching on line and found it! great job. peter |

I think I even get giddy when a new "McCormick" is discovered. Some seriously incredible collections are shared on our Board -- none, however, are as cool as Ed's. Congrats on your scholarship, Sir. An incredible find. Last edited by CobbvLajoie1910; 06-27-2013 at 10:56 AM. |

If it weren't for the members of this board, this reassembly wouldn't be where it is today. Just since posting yesterday, two more cards I didn't know existed have come to my attention, and those would be just the latest in about 225 that I wouldn't have found without the help of board members.
Sincere appreciation. |
