Default A well loved 1955 Brooklyn Dodger Pennant

Even though it has seen better days...I think it’s very cool. I have only seen 2 others in this style. Does anyone know if its one of the tougher to find ones?

Don’t know, but Fballguy knows how to “revive” something like that...

That particular Brooklyn pennant is very tough to find. I believe it was made by Trench Mfg. Co., who manufactured many of their pennants in the early to mid-1950s using that same Ebbets Field facade artwork.

Most of the Brooklyn pennants by Trench from this era lack any date, so it's tough to tell whether a Brooklyn pennant marked "National League Champions" came from '52, '53, '55, or '56. But since this one clearly celebrates them as "World Champs" we know it came from '55. Which, makes it very special to Brooklyn collectors.

And, of the few 1955 championship pennants made, I'd say this variant is very rare.

I love it. Thanks for sharing.

Default Brooklyn Dodger Pennant

Good Evening All,

Won this pennant a few days ago on eBay.
Not in great shape, but I have never seen this one before and can’t locate another one to reference it against.
It’s similar to the very rare 1963 LA pennant but has a few differences in terms of the placement of the word Dodgers and the bums clothing.
The graphic also is pretty much identical to the 1950’s extremely rare Mullins Close Shave Pin.

Any info/thoughts are welcome and appreciated.

That's a great pickup, regardless of condition. NEVER seen that variation before. Gotta be ridiculously rare.

Nice acquisition!!

I'm not trying to make this the "Hey, (San Francisco Giants) pennant guys" thread...at least, no more than it already is ....but I love specific dating clues. Our educated guess would have been early-mid sixties for this pennant. Here's confirmation:

Maybe it's a left handed batter looking back at the umpire to question his call...

That is a fantastic pennant, but I'm not sure how you are calling the images "pretty much identical" I'm thinking a more apt comparison would be "not similar in any way other than that they involve the same character".

Still a great pennant though.

Default BF3 premium pennants

In 1936 or 37 The Red Ball sales Co.of Chicago sold or gave away small pennants, later called bf3s. In one of their promotions they advertised a mail-in program in which a person could receive one of 16 different large premium pennants. Below is the advertisement as well as a picture of some of the premium pennants. They are quite rare. In fact I never seen a Reds premium and single copies of several others. I also added a picture of three of the six that I own. Mitchell and Ness also muddied the water by making reproductions of the premiums.

Default Santa Clara

Great stuff matty39. I'd love to spend a few hours on a guided tour through your room/display.

I've posted a picture of some recent pickups.

I've been collecting Santa Clara College/University items for many years, and it is rare for me to come across a pennant that I have never seen before. I upgrade now and then, but I don't think I've seen a new/different design in more than 5 years. So, last week, a new (to me) pennant pops up on eBay. But, to get the pennant, I had to buy a lot of 11 pennants. The seller actually had three lots of 11 pennants.

I also picked up the Giants pennant from Fballguy (thanks, Rob).

Just picked up the Yankee pennant. Not in the best of shape, but figured they belong together.

If that was the one off eBay, you got a good deal. The condition was a little off, but that is a very tough pennant. I don’t have it, but I only look for the dated ones from years they won or I would have bought it. Nice pick up

Thanks! I love the Dodgers pennant. One of my favorite pieces.
It’s a very scarce pennant. Most in that style will only reference national league champions. This one mentions world champions as well.

Just added to my unhealthy and borderline destructive collection of late 30s/early 40s STL Browns pennants, looking for any and every variation. This is my second green one, the orange graphic being different than the other one which is more yellow/gold. (The tassels of the others are all tucked behind.) …

I vaguely recall seeing one in red … anyone know? (Mark?)

This graphic, IMO, ranks right up there with 80s Brewers and Hartford Whalers as the coolest sports logos ever.

Considering trying to bleach this pennant, late 40s AAFC, any preconditions on how it might turn out?

That pennant is most likely from the early 60's. Is it cloth with little loose threads or soft felt? If it's soft felt, I wouldn't try to bleach.

Looks like cloth to me, by inspection of the blue strip and the deeper blue from underneath where the tack was. That’s fading (very slight) indicative of cloth pennants. Nice one!

There must be a dozen versions of ‘54 Indians, but this one is my favorite. It might be my favorite of all “modern” (not oversized) pennants. ...

My favorite as well... probably the #1 item on my want-list. That pennant represents the "perfect storm" for desirability...

Incredibly cool and detailed graphics
Commemoration of AL Champs
Dated 1954
Scroll of Names (on buckskin, no less!)
Politically Incorrect (something that would never be made today)
Insanely Rare

I would even rank it ahead of many Oversized Teens Pennants in terms of its rarity and coolness factor. But unfortunately, I think it will forever be a void in my collection. So will have to live vicariously through Greg's posts, continuing to believe it's a real pennant!

To me, it’s a total bleach candidate. My blue on white ‘61 All Star Game and ‘62 World Series both came out fantastic. That said....your pennant; your call.

Especially since they didn't win the Championship in 1960.

Despite this "imperfection", I'd be happy to take it off your hands Erik.

Love the 1930s artwork on the Packers pennant, but it's strange they used that.

I rarely post any "pick ups" as most of the items I buy these days are for resale. Recently though, I came across two that I couldn't live without.

1. Early University of Minnesota Gophers baseball pennant. I have seen many other schools, but never the Gophers. This will fit perfectly with my collection of early Gophers baseball uniforms.

2. New York Yankees "Made in China" bedazzled pennant. I have seen this pennant before, but did not have it in my Yankees collection. This one is NrMt and I couldn't pass it up. For those who could have bid against me on it, thanks for not doing it.

I don't get the opportunity to add to my Yankees collection often as I am up against some big hitters in the pennant hobby. I was very happy to add these two.

Ok, back to bleaching before and afters. Jason

Awesome pickups, Jason! Love them both.... Had the Yankee Pennant many years ago, and it's one of those I truly regret parting with.

The Minnesota Pennant is a stunner. I know it's from the teens... Is it oversized? Two GREAT pickups!

The Gophers pennant is actually only about 26 inches. I expected it to be the typical oversize, but was kind of surprised when it was smaller. I have not seen anything like this in that size and it has not been altered. Who knows.

The Bisons football is from 1946. They were an AAFC team that became the first version of the Buffalo Bills. No relation to the current version.

Thanks, Rob. With all our new knowledge, can we guess the maker?

I love how the hockey Bisons ripped off the Pepsi logo!

The team's unusual logo stems from the Bisons being purchased in 1956 by the owner of the local franchise of Pepsi-Cola, Ruby Pastor, who changed the team's colors and logo to reflect the soft drink company. Use one business to promote the other.
My understanding is the Bisons pennant was only sold at Hershey Arena in the 60s, and came in a few different colors (I’ve seen orange, green, and blue). They did different designs for each AHL team at the time, but certainly Hershey Bears pennants in this style are most common.

Here’s a few other examples:

Great stuff everyone...

The bleaching of the Reds Pennant was a mild success, I suppose. I could've done better with a bit more patience, I think. To Rob's point, the pennant continued to whiten after I was done bleaching... so I probably went a little too heavy, too soon.

The red graphics began to run, and then it was a quick rush to rinse it clean. If I went slower, the red might not have run at all. But the colored stains were still quite visible, so I kept at it. Had I stopped earlier, it may have whitened enough on its own (without bleeding).

But overall it looks significantly better. Here's the "before" (which looked far worse in person than on eBay....)

I’d say “significantly better” is an understatement. Welcome to the Bleach Club!

Jimm- do you have a picture of that pennant? I'd like to see it.

I don't have any Seals that are old enough.... Although I'd like to get one someday. Seatllerainers posted some PCL pennants on here a few months ago. They were really cool... and very rare.
