I came upon this in my hunt for pennants. Trench's Dodgers Bum wasn't as unique as we might have thought. Or it could just be me who was surprised to see it.

On a similar note, does this train look familiar?

I’m finally getting around to cataloguing my pennants, thought I’d post a few rare Cardinals pennants because why not …

What's that first pennant say in the copyright?

And, I know we discussed this before, but what's with the Spanish language on these 1960s Cardinals pennants? El Birdos??

Great pennants Greg. Thanks for sharing.

I love "Super Birds eat Tiger Meat". I doubt that one would be produced today.

“Copyright 1968 Incentives Corporation”

“Amadee” is the first name of the cartoonist who drew the graphic. Here is a button for sale on eBay which gives some more background.

https://ebay.us/m/GkxVMX

While this seems to credit the phrase “El Birdos” and “El Cardos” to Orlando Cepeda, my understanding is that they were coined by the Cardinals third base coach, Joe Schultz (who later managed the Pilots). The Cardinals collectors here would know more.

Finally, some life in the pennant thread! I love the first four you posted, Greg! It’s great you (we) could find out about the artist from your ebay link.

In addition to Eating Tiger Meat, I don't think "El Birdos" would fly either (sorry, bad pun).

It would be Los Pajaros in Spanish, but if they thought "Birdos" was clever, at least say Los Birdos instead of El Birdos.

Nice Pins.... those are toughies. But again.... "El" is singular. Should've been Los Birdos and Los Cardos.

But I get it.... nobody else cares!

Love the Cardinals pennants. I’ve never seen some of those before and scour eBay monthly for them. Pretty neat.

Did anyone here win this beauty today? I was an underbidder but was too high for me.

I dropped out of the bidding at $1,000 on it only cause the auction was loaded with a bunch of other unique Tiger items. I also missed out on the 38 Tiger pennant that was in the auction.

Like you, I dropped out of the Cochrane pennant because there were a number of others in the auction that I wanted. I managed to pick up that 38 Tiger Pennant.

A couple of new pickups from the National yesterday.

I've not seen the Texas Rangers pennant before. I was told it's from their first year...anyone here have more Ninfas about it?

Top-shelf pickups! Were those from Rick Haskins?

Nice pickups Gary...

Yes, first year Rangers (and their best by a mile). They barely snuck this one in prior to the days of corporate logos and mass-production.

The pennants were from Rick Haskins. He had a great selection.

Yes i came across the pond...but technically I came across the pond for a business trip. But it was incredible fortuitousness that it coincided with the national.

“Hey boss, from a company standpoint, the first weekend in August would be the best time for that trip”

Chicken or the egg situation with this one. As we know (thanks Kyle) Keezer never got an MLB license so this had to be early for the Rangers...and extremely late for Keezer.

Just realized this pennant is a blatant ripoff of the Midwest Badge & Novelty Co. pinbacks which came out in 1962. Although Keezers are super cool, their artwork was almost always inferior to Trench, WGN, etc.

Pennant pickups have been very slow for me lately. Just have not seen much that fits my niche.

The 49ers is missing one tassel, but the cost to me was only about half of what a 4 tassel version sold for on ebay last week (about $400... and that one had a stain). I'm thinking about using the small piece of the 4th tassel that is left to fill in the missing white in the spine. Just set it in. Or I may leave it alone.

My pennant collection started with Santa Clara about 30 years ago. Just when I thought I'd seen every Santa Clara pennant, this new (to me) one shows up. Glad to add it. And it provides the type of intermittent reinforcement that behavioral science tells us is such a potent predictor of behavior. And thanks to all my Net54 friends who send me links when a new Santa Clara pennant shows up somewhere.

Come on Rob...The design is nothing like that of the pin. The bats are pointing up!

What kind of behavior is that? If the same pennant keeps showing up we can accurately predict you'll buy it.

The Polo Grounds is a 1970s repro, spine gives it away.

Thanks. Isn’t that D*dgers Luncheon pennant pretty rare?

That has to be Rick Haskins's set-up, right? What a hobby treasure he is!

I don’t know … I think someone once posted here a picture from the luncheon with the pennants at each table. Anyone recall?

This was Dale's Sports Collectibles. Great booth.

He had these Jimmie Hall and Bob Allison pennants for sale. I bought the Allison pennant because it was in much better condition. I haven't seen either of them before

Rick Haskins had one of those too. But my budget necessitated that I make a choice. I've seen the keezer for sale before but never the blue one. So I channelled my best American Pickers...if you've never seen something before, the time to buy it is when you see it.

That was the old (Frank Fritz) American Pickers. These days, Mike gets all philosophical about why people collect and what stuff “means” to people. Robbie is just annoying and says “iconic” a lot.

Phew! I noticed the repro had $100 on it. I wouldn’t pay $100 for a real one.
