Whoa Mark...Top 3 in 2007? Imagine where you rank now?!
![]() Very first post too. ******************** Posted By: Mark Steinberg Mike: I just joined tonight, and this is my first post. I think I might have the best vintage baseball pennant collection in the world... top 3 anyway. The collection spans from turn of the century to the late '60s. It stops at the point manufacturers felt the need to cheapen / mass-produce the artwork, make them stiff instead of soft, and include the MLB Logo. Until I can figure out how to display them on the floors or ceiling however, I have had to slow it down a bit. I had hoped to create some type of memorabilia museum someday, but am doubtful that enough people would actually appreciate.

I was watching this on ebay...a mailing envelope for the 1955 Post cereal patches. The Phillies patch shows the hat with orbiting baseball. Greg, was this motif used circa 1955 on Phillies pennants? There are a few kind of hard to find Giants pennants with this motif, but I think those ones are mid-1970's.

I think those Giants are 1970s. There are several "similar" pennants for the A's and Mets (circa 1973 or so.. with players names) that seem to be from the same maker. I'm guessing they were inspired by that long used Phillies logo.

Not to mention a dealer/collector from Texas with the jaw-dropping Red Sox collection and a few other guys who prefer to remain anonymous!

That Baseball Centennial Pennant was just a joke I played, that I had completely forgotten about. I had a piece of blank blue felt, and placed a Centennial Sleeve Patch and cut-out pictures of a bat and ball on top of the felt. Totally fake.... There was a bunch of bogus and fake memorabilia on Ebay being passed off as real back then. So I thought it was pretty funny at the time to parody it. If you go back and read it, you'll see that it was never intended to deceive. Hope all is well, Mark

Ebay's been absolutely dead lately...as has just about every other site. But then when you least expect it...the grind pays off. These have been sitting in a chest in an attic in Eastern PA for at least the last half of their lives. And now they've been freed.

First of all, to answer another question, you'd have to misspell "pennants" in your search to find them. The seller really fat fingered it. Bocca actually saw them first, the entire lot for...wait for it....$40. Even with the misspelling it was only a matter of time before someone else, potentially local, thus more desirable, found them. Add in...this was Facebook marketplace...a minefield of scammers to navigate thru and Marc freaked the seller out when he informed him of what he had lol. The guy thought Marc was a scammer and ghosted him. So Marc handed it off to me. I told the guy I was very interested and asked for additional pictures. The only picture in his listing, I've included below. That's when I discovered there were two more baseball pennants. When I made my offer, the guy started to get suspicious of me...but was intrigued enough to stay engaged. I was suspicious as well. Sending this kind of money to a stranger on FBMP sounds like a horror story waiting to happen. I asked for his phone number. We had a couple of phone conversations. I showed him my website and after a little waffling between "let me think about it" and "lets do it" he warmed up to the deal. He seemed like a nice guy, which put me at ease. In his early 70s. He and his wife were in the process of clearing out his mother in laws house. The wife had never seen the pennants before but believed they were bought by her grandfather. No idea what they had, they initially considered throwing them in the dumpster and it was the wife who suggested FB. They were this close to likely disappearing forever. Since Marc saw it first, I asked if he wanted to buy in, which he did. The last hurdle was whether or not he'd be comfortable shipping. Most sellers on FBMP will not ship. But he was fine with it and shipped the next day. The USPS cooperated as well. They were shipped on Friday and delivered on Monday. Crazy, unexpected deal.

I had no idea that there were more pennants. I had offered a good bit more than he was asking. But I was leery of getting scammed. And I could not afford to risk thousands. In the end, the seller got much more than $40 and 2x to 3x more than I was willing to risk alone. So he benefited in the end, Rob and I are getting some benefits. And others down the line will hopefully benefit as well (I’m keeping the Giants though).

There is also some poetic justice in this for me. I was officially suspended from one of the main facebook pennant groups about a month ago for telling someone that their pennant with a "Reproduction Company" tag was both original and old (it was a Michigan football pennant). This lot that Rob and I purchased has a good number of Reproduction Company pennants. The Giants will be the first Repco pennant that I own.

I've been collecting pennants for 50 years, and have never seen a "BBC" Phillies, Pirates, Highlanders, Naps, Dodgers, Braves, Cardinals, White Sox, Browns, Tigers or Reds (which I would kill for). In fact, I have never seen an oversized Reds Pennant, period. Maybe the "Dooin's Daisies" was a BBC Pennant (can't recall for sure), but if anyone can provide images of the pennants listed above, please do!

FWIW, this Phillies pennant was likely manufactured by The Reproduction Co. as well, probably around the same time period as the B.B.C. offering, ca. 1910-14.
Here's two more that seem to match your pennant, Mark. All featured rich polychromatic artwork uniquely created for each team. The cub artwork is the mirror image of "Bear with bat," which was copyrighted by Repco in 1910 and featured on other Cubs pennants from that era, as seen in the final picture below. Are there any other known examples from this "horizontal bat series" out there?

It’s crazy how rare the RepCo pennants are. My guess would be most of the original owners died 1940-1970. If the pennants were even kept that long, and I’m sure many weren’t, they were probably just tossed after the owner’s death since baseball memorabilia wasn’t really a “thing” in that time frame.
Why would anyone spend 100x (1000x?) more for a ‘52 Mantle card?
