Having never had an autographed certified by Spence or anyone for that matter. What is the typical procedure? Do you first authenticate the period and then try to confirm the signature itself? Would you list this card prior to confirmation on the signature? It seems to me that the card would garner more money if the seller had waited on the certification. Any comments on this sig? look good? http://tinyurl.com/5g9rhw |

i'm no expert but it doesn't really look like any of the other young certified autographs on ebay right now. the "young" portion of the signature is different. could be that its an early signature and i'm not saying it isn't real. here's a signature for comparison: |

Why would someone list it if they were going to get the word on if it was authenticate in a week? Doubtful it is real. |

Al, Thanks for the link to the second auction. Your right, the two look NOTHING alike.. Of couse, one is signed Cy and the other is signed DT. It will be interesting to see where this one ends up. martyOgelvie New York Yankee cards |

...to have BVG/JSA encapsualte this card if authentic. And they would do it in about 20 days. |

Does everyone think that the card is authentic and only the autograph is in question? |

Hopefully the high bid will be on the merits of the card itself and not the autograph. Cy Young's signature was always sloppy and crude, even during his playing days. |

Actually the second one sounds a little shady to me as well. It doesn't look like your typical Black and White HOF Postcard, nor do I like the comment that "SMR never saw one". Who is SMR? Some CIA operative? I have one that's slabbed by PSA/DNA. Something is off here. |

the second one is authenticated by james spence. i dont think there is a question about the authenticity of the signature in the listing i posted. |

SMR is "Sports Market Report" a monthly PSA price guide/publication. Hall of Fame postcards had a variety of changes over the years. I see no problems with the second card or signature. |

I was attempting to make a joke about the SMR. Obviously it failed. Having a PSA/DNA B&W Young I know the population is at least one. I am concerned that there is no copy of Jimmy's cert nor a reference to the cert#. There have been 3 basic changes to the HOF card and maybe it is the picture but it still looks funky to me. |

Arthur, I caught the joke and it was a good one, though not as good as Darren's. |
