Robert KlevensI recently listed this 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card on Ebay. The card was submitted to PSA and was returned as altered with the reason being "altered stock". I listed the card on Ebay with the images below stating that the card was authentic, but altered.
Ebay canceled the auction stating that I violated the terms of sale "Trademark Violation - Unauthorized Item". At the time the auction was canceled the card had received almost 20 bids and was at $2025. I can't believe that Ebay can cancel an auction because of this. My account is now at risk and may be suspended. Please tell me your thoughts.
The email from Ebay is as follows:
We regret to inform you that we have removed the following listing:
1952 Topps MICKEY MANTLE # 311 PSA Authentic ROOKIE
In this particular case, your listing included a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle Card that is reportedly favored by counterfeiters.
Please understand that we are not in the position to verify the authenticity of trading cards and, as such, we cannot say for certain whether or not this particular card is authentic however, due to recent concerns with counterfeit trading cards, eBay now requires this card to be professionally graded and sealed within a hard plastic case (or
'slabbed') prior to being listed.
