Does anyone know if there is a checklist or a way to determine specific year(s) of issue for each player? |

You can start with this thread and then maybe do a quick search for W590 in our search area..I am not sure of the exact dates but would think you would just need to look at player/team combos to get an idea......good luck |

The boxing cards issued on the sheets of these offer some clues as to dates. Benny Leonard and Jack Dempsey are listed as champions. Leonard retired and Dempsey lost in 1926, so I've treated the cards as 1925 or 1926 issues. Not sure how we get the timespan on the issue; looking forward to seeing the analysis here. |

There are two distinct printings of these. The first in 1925 and the second in 1931. Many, but not all of the first printing cards were updated in the second series. There were no new players added in the second series. The best way to determine which printing your card is from is by the team in the caption. A couple general rules - if it's a minor league team or the position has been updated as "Former" as in "Former Catcher", it's from the second series. The second series cards are much more difficult to find than the first. Much of the checklist in SCD is based on a meeting I had with Bob Lemke at the old Richmond show about 5-6 years ago where I showed him my collection. He wrote a subsequent article in SCD and added a half dozen cards to the checklist. I think I still have one or two more in my own set that are not on the checklist. |

Does anyone have the GC Alexander with "House of David" as the team? It is my favorite and Ive only seen it 2-3 times (once pictured in the SCD around 2000). |

Here are both versions of Tris Speaker and Heinie Sand. I posted the Sand variations to show an example of a "Former" caption. |

Can anybody tell me what team Hornsby is portrayed on in this set? Are there any team variations concerning Frisch or Hornsby? Thanks. |

There are some awesome golfers in the set as well. Here are two Bobby Jones variations and one Walter Hagen. The "Golf Champion" Jones was printed on much heavier card stock. |

Do we know if the Lou Gehrig card was issued in only 1925 or only 1931 or during both print runs? |

Here are both versions of Frisch, and one of Hornsby. There is also a Hornsby Boston version. For Frisch, the Giants is the first series and Cardinals is second. It's possible some of the first series cards were reprinted in the second without any caption changes. I once tried to catalog the cards by paperstock when I had about 60-65 of them, but I couldn't tie any one paperstock (there appeared to be more than 2 paperstocks) to any one series in particular. |

Hornsby played for Boston only in 1928. Doesn't this suggest that there was an intermediate print run in 1928, or maybe early 1929? |

It's possible. Assuming an intermediate print run, we would expect to find at least some of the following cards (team and years played for them): |

One other thought on the Hornsby. The checklist shows it as Boston. I've never seen one however. Maybe Boston is incorrect--speculating. Can someone please post a scan of a Hornsby other than the one shown above? |
