Stumbling around the web looking for somw info on Wharton-Tigar and found George Vrechek collected his series of SCD articles and posted them on the OBC site. This is unbelievable stuff:

Wow, that's some amazing stuff. It's amazing how many years it took some of these guys to complete relatively contemporary (1930s) sets. We have it easy with eBay, but I'm sure we're missing some of the fun as well. Just meeting another collector back in those days was a big deal. I love the story about the discovery the first Wagner and its $25 estimated value ...
