1911 Obak Question

Hi, Portland had two teams in 1911, one in the PCL (the Beavers), and one in the Class B NWL (the Pippins). They shared the same stadium, Vaughn St. Park. The checklist for the 1911 NWL team is as follows: Bill Bloomfield; Perle Casey; Jess Garrett; Babe Harris; Fred Lamline; Eddie Mensor; Howard Mundorff; Billy Speas; Jesse Stovall; and Nick Williams.

It is my understanding the Portland Beavers were a charter Coast League team in 1903 and the league's best team when Obaks were issued, winning both the 1910 & 1911 titles ... I looked it up, and there was a Portland Gladiators in 1896 and a Portland Webfoots in 1892, 1901 and 1902 in the Northwest League. I'll bet the Northwest League reference is just an error ...

Glad to help. In fact, the famous "Ten Million" card is of a NWL player with the Victoria Bees. If you want to put the Bees team set together, the players are Walter Dashwood, Davis, Goodman, Ed Householder, Fred Raymer, Jack Reddick, Jack Roche, Con Starkell, Ten Million, Blaine Thomas, and Ward.
