that they are not from then... because of the "in the 1880s" term used. |

1880's uncut sheets

Others will know more about this than I, but I believe similar 'Old Judge' composites were made circa 1920s perhaps for an anniversary of the teams or league or something like that. Though obviously not originals, the circa 1920s versions have $$ value and are scarce. I've never seen one of these in person, and am retelling what I've read and heard. I think REA and Halper auctions had them (presumably pictured in the catalogs) and Rob Lifson once told me about them over the phone. As I recall, Lifson wasn't sure exactly when they were made but dated them to the early 1900s. |

I saw them, too, while browsing through auctions. Not period but they don't appear new either. Neat images. |

These have been known in the hobby for a long time and were made in the 20th century. I would value each at a few hundred dollars. |

1880's uncut sheets

Just looked and lot #2138 of the 1999 Sotheby's/Barry Halper has a lot of four of them. They look just like the above ones except there are no player names below the individual images. Appears as in the above examples the names were handwritten in. Sotheby's describes them as being from 1926 and, they believe, were made for the 50th anniversary of the National League. |

They were made for the 50th Anniversary of the National League. I would think they are worth more than $200 each...In fact I think I would give more than that at a live auction. Hope you get them for a bargain. |

Dan, I haven't looked at the auction website you posted but if the Ruth signature is fake and the other sigs are real, isn't there a way to remove the fake Ruth autograph? |
