OLD MILL cabinets....H801-7....any out there ?

Talking about rare....these are the RAREST. These "T3 type" cabinet cards are enlargements of the T210
cards. They were issued in 1910 and I think there are only 29 cards in this set.

Unlike the colorful T3's....they are just B/W cards and are probably the rarest 20th Century issue of its
kind.

I have had Doyle and Revelle from this set and Barry Sloate has only seen two of these OM Cabinet cards.

Does anyone on this Forum have any....show or tell us about them ?

Over the past year, 2 catcher pose Old Mill Cabinets have surfaced in two separate auctions within a couple of months of each other.

Here are the scans of the only 2 catchers that I seen in the set so far. I have also included my T210 Laughlin to contrast the sets.

One of the few times I wish I had more disposable income. I think it was last year when I noticed two Old Mill cabinets at the Hollywood Park show. I honestly think they were at Robert Craik's table but not positive. I am positive I walked over to Trevor and told him about it. I know Trevor bought them for a good price and I am sure he flipped them soon after. Not sure who ended up with them but they were the only two I have seen.

I found a H801-7 in decent shape about 20 years ago. I only bought it because the player had the same last name as mine (O'Halloran). Paid aprox $25. I have been looking for the T-210 series 7 O'Halloran card for over 15 years and have never seen one for sale in any condition. I have 2 questions. I know the series 7 cards are not common, but it seems strange that in 15 years that I can't find the O'Halloran T210. Is this card that uncommon? Also what is a H801-7 in VG shape worth?

There was a rumor circulating around 20 years ago that someone found an H801-7 Joe Jackson, but I believe that it is impossible, and the person who said he saw it had questionable credibility.

Are the players featured in H801-7 taken from all 8 series or just the last few?

Lew Lipset lists 28 known Old Mill cabinets. He doesn't list JC's Bonner or the Wingo found earlier this year.

Therefore, out of the 30 known H807-1 Old Mill Cabinets that I'm aware of, here's the breakdown:

Per Lew: 3 Players in the H801-7 Cabinets are not listed in the T210 set. (Doane, Hearn, and Spratt)

Of the remaining 27 players represented: 17 are from Series No. 2 (Virginia League), 8 are from Series 5 (Carolina League), and only 2 from Series 6 (Eastern Carolina League).

At first, I thought this was strange....where are the other Series cards? However, I then read the ad on the back of the H807-1 cabinet: "OLD MILL CIGARETTES....Blue bloods every one. Made of Virginia and Carolina tobaccos--pedigreed leaf."

Of course! That's why the Virginia and Carolina Leagues are featured!

I think, therefore, it is safe to say that since Joe Jackson was in Series 8 (Southern Association) that there isn't a Jackson H807-1.

Is it possible that the 3 non-T210 cabinets have as-yet undiscovered cards out there? While the series has been well-collected (and collected well) it does not make a great deal of sense that the company would issue the cabinet without a card. Also, which Richmond, Va. players are known with cabinets?

DITTO....to what Barry said of your analysis.

I vaguely recall back in the 1980's that only 25 OM Cabinets were thought to exist.
And, these cards were so rare that most Price Guides did not even catalogue them.
The 1st time I saw them identified was in the 1st SCD Standard BB Card Price Guide
(about 17 years ago).
And, it listed 29 cabinets.....of course since then more have appeared. These cards
remind me of T206 scarce backs, that if you wait long enough they will appear.

Revelle was the 1st one I pick-up about 16 years ago....then I found a Doyle, which I traded
away many years ago, and I don't recall his first name.
Have you seen the Doyle ? I am wondering if it is Joe Doyle whose Major Lge. career ended in
early 1910 ?

The Doyle listed in the T210 set played for Dallas (Texas Lge.)

Doyle is indeed a player (not a pitcher) for Roanoke of the Virginia League.

I looked him up in my 1911 Spalding BB Guide. So, that eliminates him from being Joe Doyle.

Not to beat a dead horse, (Of course none of us on the VBC forum would ever do that! ), but I'm curious to know why Woolums in this set has been listed in past SCD catalogs for less than the others in the set. In most cases it would be due to a card being more commonly found then others. Any ideas?
