Hi
I know some one has already posted this before but i'll give it a shot.I would like to hear what sets you have completed or are working on right now. Here i'll start it off first. This may seem weird to some of you people but im only 16 years old and i'm trying to complete the t205 set. So far i only have around 16% of the set no hall of famers yet just trying to get the every day ones and then i'll work on the cobb and everything. Most are raw but they would be around 2's to 4's and then later on in my life if i do get the hole set i'll upgrade the ones. Thansk

Cool topic... Started the T206 set in August of 2003 (I was 27 at the time).

My current projects are:

1. T206 set
2. T200 set
3. T209-1 set
4. T3 New York Giants team set

Strangely enough, the T3's have been the easiest to come by lately.

i started collecting T206 when i was your age...(16 years ago)...keep plugging away...

i am happy to see that you have an interest in vintage (T205 is a great set to start working on)...read books, do research, look at past N-54 posts, etc...talk to older collectors, be a sponge, learn as much as you can about all the different variations, rare backs, etc...know the sets that you are collecting, inside and out.

i currently collect:

high grade T206 & low-mid grade rare backs

rare/important world series ticket stubs (1919, 1927, etc...)

...and just started T200 Fatima

Last year at this time my New Year's resolution was to complete a T206 set with only Piedmont backs.
I did "complete" a 518-card T206 set (minus the Big Four) this past October.

My 2007 BB card resolution is to complete a T206 set with only Sovereign backs. I currently have 300+
cards to this end. If I did my homework correctly......I am 3/4 on the way to completing this set, as my
estimate is that there were approx. 407 cards printed with the Sovereign brand.

But, even though I am this far ahead in this adventure....I am discovering that it is not easy finding the
remaining cards for this T206 "subset".

I completed my T3 set (including variations) in 2006, and my T206 set (minus the Big Four). And, I'm one card shy of completing the T222 set: Henry. If anyone has one, it would be a great way for me to start 2007. (Don't flag me here, Leon.)

Also, I'm happy to see someone else mention tickets. I just started collecting these (WS, Phillies opening day, Ryan Howard HRs), despite the verbal abuse I have taken from my "friends" Tim Newcomb and Bob Marquette. I know tickets aren't pictures, but there is history attached to each.

Have a great 2007 to all, filled with many interesting new acquisitions.

Hey Mike,I have a rare Howard home run ticket.Its from the last spring training game they played vs Boston but it was at Citizen's bank ballpark. I'll trade it for a t3 type card

Also will you be attending opening day? Im planning on taking Kevin Cummings for his birthday,its a surprise so dont let him know.Maybe we can have a VBC Forum meet.Maybe tbob can ride a donkey in from Arkansas(or whatever means of transportation they use there) for the game

It does not surprise me at all that a teenager likes T205. I started to collect T206 when I was 12 with a few cards and am still working toward a complete set almost a decade later. Don't let anyone tell you that it is too big of an undertaking for a teenager because it can be done; just start picking up HOF's here and there for your set.

Low-mid grade SGC (40-60) n162 set. I'm 26 cards into it, with none of the baseball players and only Buffalo Bill and Beecher amongst the key cards. It's not a priority for me this year, so maybe I'll end the year with 30/50.

I have completed a set of all the Topps Chicago Cubs from 1951 to Current including all errors and variations. The set is strictly the main topps cards and topps update cards in the more recent cards. It took a number of years to complete and the toughest card to find was the 1957 gene baker error card. None of the cards are graded, but they were collected in an era when grading was not common. Would cost a pretty penny to get them all graded.

I need help with some thing about a t205 card. I just got ten in the mail today and i have two of the same cards so i was going to sell one of them and then i seen that they have diffeerent Sellers of cigarettes like the one had piedmont and the other had polar bear. To complete a set do i need both types or just one type of cigarette company. Thanks

There are many ways to collect sets like T205 and T206. One card with any back will suffice for a complete set, but some people like myself also desire a complete back set. Right now I'm working on getting all of the T206 backs, and this is just another way of collecting. If you are going for the whole set and want to do it the quickest, just stick to one of each card in the set and do the backs later. Me, I'm in no hurry to complete the T206's, so I'm getting all the backs as well. Also, Start picking up some HOF's because these are likely to go up in value faster than the commons, so they may become more unobtainable over time.

and good luck on your T205 quest. Regarding your last post, it really depends on how you want to collect. There are 210 or so cards in the T205 set, and each card can be found with up to 11 different cigarette companies advertised on the backs...so up to over 2,100 different front/back combos. Most people collect only the different fronts, but there are the more intrepid/serious collectors who go after the "master set" of front/back combos.

I started collecting "T" cards back in 1978 when I was 15. Just this year, i finally completed my T205/T206/T207 hall of famer sets (minus T206 Plank and Wagner). Now I'm working on Goudey and T3 hall of famers, and plan on starting on pre-1900 hall of famers.

As Lee and Steve have mentioned before there are many ways in collecting the T205 set. I am 15 and my dad and I have been working on the "Master Set" since February.

The "Master Set" is made up of all the variations that are in the set. The master set is made up of many different types of cards that consist of very small things that some don't even notice.

Some Examples:

---Moran Stary line of type below stats---



---Dougherty White and Red Sock Emblem---



---Barger Partial and Full "B" on cap---



---Bresnahan Mouth open and mouth closed---



---Dolly Gray stats and no stats on back---



---Shean "Rustlers" and Shean "Cubs"---



---Wallace 1 line of 1910 stats and Wallace 2 lines of 1910 stats---



Those are a few examples to help you out on the variations that are in the "Master Set"

As for collecting I have been trying to put together the Dockman set which is a blast. I am up to 24

Was that as I went over my postwar cards yesterday I was recalling how I started and stopped on various sets. I find I am perpetually working on sets from my childhood in very high raw grades, primarily 1971-1976. They stop and start as time goes by. Other sets I started and quit and still have the unfinished pieces.

Hi Jason,

Unfortunately the few duplicate cards I had were given to a friend to be sold. I only kept one of each card and was consolidating the box of extras in preparation for a move. If you are interested in autographs of cub players, I will be attending Cubs fantasy camp at the end of January/ It is the 25th aniversary of the camp, and there shoould be some good names there. Hpoefully my favorite coach ( Lee Smith) will be there. I am planning on e-mailing him to see if he is coming.

I completed the 1938 Goudey set just before Halloween of this year. It took me a little less than 13 years to do it. I was 16 years' old when I started. It was/is my favorite set as a kid. I don't have a focus on what my next collecting project is seeing that the next closest set I have to completing is 1955 Topps and I'm not even halfway there. Mostly 1950s Topps and hi-grade 1971 Topps are of my liking though the closest pre-war set I have to completion is 1941 Play Ball. Since I like cards of all eras, having set projects in different eras maximizes my enjoyment.

T206 - just shy of 50%. Plan is 60% by end of 2007.
C46 - have around 12 of 90 now. Plan is 33% by end of 2007.
14' CJ - Just purchased first two. Plan is total of 6 by end of 2007.
Beater/Low grade T3's - have 9 so far. Plan to get to 15 total by end of 2007.

Well 2006 was the first year I started working on pre-war sets.

My main focus was the 1915 Cracker Jack set. I started the year with about 75/176 cards but none of the big ones. I will end the years missing only 5 cards mostly HOF with just 1 common.

I need Baker, Cobb, Speaker, Wheat and the pain in the ass Nap Rucker.


I also thought that the E90 set would be easy especially after I got the Jackson, boy was I wrong. I did manage to get 15 cards with a few nice HOFers.

Hopefully in 2007 I will complete the CJ set, upgrade some of my SGC 10s to a more acceptable SGC 30-40s and add many cards to the e-90 set.

Each year I seem to get hooked on another set but right now Im hunting for:

T206 (low grade, 201 so far, mostly RayB's leftovers)

1934 Goudey (only 5 left...bet you can guess which ones..most have a last name starting with G)

3x5 Autographs from the 1934 Goudey guys (44/95 so far...not quite sure how this collection started)

T201 (my latest set started by a BST purchase, 6 so far)
1959 Fleer Ted Williams (61/80 down)

1962 Exhibits (I got a Mantle from a board member and off I went..15 of 32)

1968 Topps (21 to go)

2003 Upper Deck Joe Dimaggio Hit Streak (I love reading the box scores from the games during his streak. It makes his record even more impressive. 33/56 so far)

Im sure when Ray offers up those 64 Topps Giants Ill be interested. Or maybe Ill jump into the 27 Exhibits now that I got a Pipp.

I am also 16 years old and I have collected just T206s for about two years. I have about 15% of the set with many HOFers all crease free and no back damage. Collecting these large tobacco issues takes much time and effort so it is good to keep plugging away.

1911 e136. Have 109/122. Looking to add maybe four or five this year.

e100 San Francisco sub-set. Have 4/5. Need Weaver to complete.

c46. Have 7/90. Might give it a run at.

1915 e137 "Nine Men Out". Have 2/4. Worth a try.

e136/e137 Maggert run. Have 6/7. Need the 1915. Should get it this year.

Since W512s have been maligned in the poll... I'll confess to being actively looking for a couple of variations I lack.

And I'm seriously after 4 T210 Old Mill series 6 cards to complete that series... Angermeier fielding, Barney, Goostree leaning on bat, and Whitaker.

Work as I do toward these, they can't be bought if none are for sale.
