Joe's acquistion and the comments thereto led me to wonder what are considered the top five (5) vintage pc's.

My vote, and not necessarily in order, are:

Joe's 1903 Giants at the Waldorf
1906 Ullman Art Frame Mathewson
Johnson Weiser
1906 Ullman "Henry" Mathewson
1906 Detroit Sporting Life

Edit to add the Rose Cobb (OK, so that's 6)

I'm a Cobb collector, so I'm a little biased. His Novelty Cutlery has always been my favorite. It's hard to pick 5 with so many great PC's, but here's my top 5.

1- Cobb Novelty Cutlery
2-Johnson Weiser Wonder
3-Cobb Wolverine News (portrait)
4-Cobb Wolverine News (batting)
5- Mathewson Novelty Cutlery

#1 Baseball postcard of all time (to me) is the Orr postcard of Louis Sockalexis. #2 would be the Weiser Wonder Walter Johnson postcard. Everything else is a distant third through fifth so its not worth worrying about making a list.

Paul, That Novelty Cutlery is fantastic, and I would also rank it number one in the postcard category. There may be postcards that are older, but I think it will be hard to find one that combines rarity, aesthetics and importance. Not only is it one of a few 1907 Cobb cards, but cards from the Novelty Cutlery set are very difficult to find.

I am biased towards Cobb myself, but here is my objective list:

1. Novelty Cutlery Cobb
2. HM Taylor Cobb
3. Rose Company Wagner
4. Ulman Mathewson
5. PC796 Cobb

Here are my top five:

1. Addie Joss Day PC
2. Rose Company Ty Cobb Cobb
3. Weiser Wonder Walter Johnson (sepia)
4. PC796 featuring Honus Wagner and Ty Cobb shaking hands
5. Victor Mills minor league PC featuring a young Joe Jackson

There are plenty of other great postcards, but I feel as if these are the best of the best.

Thanks Wesley. Everybody's lists are fantastic. I'm not familiar with the Orr postcard of Louis Sockalexis, so if someone has one to share that would be great. Also, I'm not sure if I've seen the Victor Mills Jackson, so that would be nice too.

That's one incredible rppc. ? Year and any reference number, also, is it postmarked and/or any message on the back? Yea, I'm giddy about that piece.

1935 Pebble Beach Joe DiMaggio. Each was personally signed by Joe D. back in 1935.

The 1931 Josh Gibson photo postcard must rank high up there somewhere. Afterall, it set the record for the most paid for a postcard.

The Josh Gibson postcard sold for $81,200, which, according to the hobby writeup I found in the SMR, is "a world record for any postcard of any type relating to any field."
