I just started collecting t-206s recently and I purchased a pretty good looking Nap Lajoie. I want to get it graded and had a question on that. The card is in great condtion, but has a piece of small piece of clear tape across the back. No one has attempted to remove this. Should I send it in with the tape on it, is there a way to remove it without harming the card, what will this do to the grade, what company would you recommend sending it in to? Just guessing I would say it would be between a PSA 5 and 7 without the tape. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Just included the pictures today! |

Toluene reportedly does a good job at tape removal, but I haven't tried it - and I wouldn't try it until I practised with lesser cards. I believe it was an orange Beckett price guide from the '80s where I first heard of this method. |

What is exactly involved in that process? |

If you use toluene make sure to use a good mask and do not use around kids or pets. The fumes can really blow your mind and long term exposure can cause brain damage |

Would they not score it higher and give it a marker? That seems crazy considering how nice this card looks, but then again I am new to the grading process and the t206 collecting. |

Joey: if you would like me to fax you a copy of that article when I get home, then e-mail me your number. Toluene is a flammable and toxic chemical. |

Ive never tried it with t206s but Ive had success getting paper glued to cards off by soaking in water. If the glue on the tape is water based, you should be able to get it off with using only water. |

Please do not put any chemicals on your card. Especially a chemical such as toluene. You will, without a doubt, ruin your card. Toluene is an industrial strength petroleum based solvent. Never use anything other than distilled water to remove scrapbook/glue residue on your cards. Trust me on this one. |

i use disstilled water on mine. and 2 Q-tips, rub slowly and lightly, and it should come off in matter of 5 mins or less. but u must heat the distilled water for it to work. i have had 100% sucess with it, i will try to post pics |

...and side, this card would not grade between a 5 and a 7, even if the tape were perfectly removed. |

It maybe just me, but I dont see any paperloss on that card and do not see any curviture to the sides either. I recall following the auction and the card looked pretty good except for the tape. |

no paper loss! I think the part you are referring to on the front as paper loss is just the tape where it wraps around. The only thing on it is tape. I don't think it is trimmed either! |
