Babe Ruth Photo in Old Cardboard

I was looking at the latest issue on Old Cardboard and got to the stereoview article (great 3D by the way). The photo of Ruth batting caught my attention for a few reasons, never seen him in such a snug uniform, never quite seen that batting pose & his bat seems to have 2 rings on it (don't remember seeing any old bats with rings). IS this not odd or have I smelled too many bowlingshoes?
