The Superior auction which ended last evening featured over 200 individually lotted Old Judge including a very nice Bid McPhee which went for a bargain price (or at least a bargain price relative to where the last half dozen or so copies have traded). Paul--Did you finally get your man? |

Jay: A lot of the Old Judges had hidden reserves that were not disclosed, with many of them not selling, despite some healthy prices. |

Many cards did not meet their hidden reserves but it looks like McPhee sold. Someone got a really good deal on that card. |

Dave Levin had told me that most/all of the old Judge in the auction were ones he sold directly to Superior at the National. |

i think the item will show $0 for the final sale if the reserve was not met. |

I got the Cushman (Toledo), and I'm very pleased. Lew Lipset told me about a year ago that he considered Cushman one of the rarest non-HOFers and believes there are less than five known. My catch for the month. |

Rich--Cushman-Toledo is a scarce card but not a rare one. I would estimate that 10-15 are known(several have popped up over the last few years). Cushman also has a spotted tie pose. Thus, the Cushman-Toledo card is a scarce pose or team variation but one of two poses of the player. |

Jay: Thanks for the additional info. Even though not perhaps "rare," Mr. Cushman will join some of his other little colleagues in my collection with my pleasure! He's still less available than Hal's ratty T206 Wagner . . . . |

I know who won the McPhee, and it wasn't Paul. This person i'd imagine will post here soon. He was very happy with his win. |

I am going to cry. I wasn't even aware of the auction. Yes, I would have bought it for that price. |

That Bid McPhee card was pretty well hidden. Out of 227 different lots of OJs, only two Cap Anson cards had short descriptions. |

Another example of the great deals in Superior was the PSA 6 Amos Rusie which sold for only $200 more than the very faded SGC 2 Rusie (same pose) sold for three weeks ago in Goodwins. It would have actually sold for less than the 2 if I hadn't bid it up. |

No offense, but that card is no 6, regardless of what the label states. It is dirty or stained and has chipping in the right border. |

The Old Judges went low in some cases but not many considering the VERY generious grades. I agree with Jay on the Cushman Toledo. I was the one who got the Cushman from Lews auction four years ago (which into a SGC 50 holder) when the card was a lot rarer than it is now and I paid 1800 for it then. After that auction five more copies that I know of have been found. Still a very tough card but not rare and a fair price as well. Sorry about the McPhee Paul I know you have been trying for sometime now but hey thats what makes this hobby great, the hunt for YOUR prefect card. |

I don't need perfect. I'll take skinned or trimmed. (I know that's not what you meant by perfect). |

Anyone for a pool as to when Paul will get his McPhee? I'm sorry to hear you missed this one, Paul. I guess you'll have a great appreciation for this card when you get it. |

The 15 OJs I bid on all seemed to sell, although on the last day I got knocked out of the lead on all of them, including the Kid Madden portrait which was yes, no, yes, no all night long. Congrats to whomever beat me out. |
