Today I finished my T206 set, minus the Big 4, and thought the Board deserved a tremendous Thank You, because I truly couldn't have done it without many of you.

I know I've seen it in the past, but cards and collections change hands, and I was hoping to get a running tally on how many T206 complete sets are currently in the possession of Net54'ers. So, if you're not concerned about thieves in the night, etc., would you mind letting us know if you've got one, too (two)? Or if you're close?

Thanks again! I will now focus on upgrading my set, getting them all SGC graded in time, and maybe even put some meat on my skeletal E95 set.

Thanks again. It took me a little over 8 years to do.

My first two T206 cards were Matty White Cap and Bender Portrait, which I purchased back in the summmer of 1997 from a guy who needed the money to go to Vegas (so he was selling some of his grandfather's cards). Later, I picked up a few singles on ebay back in 1999 and then a lot of 12 graded T206 cards shortly thereafter. After a lot of 40 or so cards I purchased in June-ish of 2000, I was off and running.

But, I never would have gotten anywhere near this far without my wife, who not only stood by me through irresponsible spending sprees, but also made sure for years not to get me anything for Christmas or my birthday that was not a key T206 card; how many wives buy their husband's SGC 60 Lajoie w/ Bat cards or Evers Chicago shirt cards for Christmas?

Anyway, it's been good fun. Maybe one day I'll pony up for the Magie. But never the Plank or Wagner (or Doyle). So in some senses, it'll never really be complete. But that's also part of the fun.

Very few people get past 520, or perhaps 521. Your set is complete in a very practical context. I bought my first set already complete, back in the mid-80's for $4000, so I never experienced piecing it together. But I was no less excited to own it. No big 4 (Doyle wasn't even invented yet) but it did include Drum, Uzit, and Lenox backs. Never forget it.

Well, I have 8 cards of the E95 set, including Plank (which, given the pose, sometimes I pretend is a T206 that I'll never own), but I'm not sure I have the same fire for Caramel cards from the same era. I'm sure I'll always be interested in upgrading the T206 set -- I have quite a lot of filler, to go along with quite a lot of quality stuff. I'd love to average VG across the whole set, but I only average that over the best 41% of the set, so I have some work there to do. Maybe save up for the Magie.

One of the best features of collecting T206 over recent years has been selling back lesser condition doubles in lots to keep costs lower. Branching out into new areas of collecting will be all cost, no mitigation, for awhile. But we'll see. I believe that you do not search for what to collect, rather what to collect finds you.

Congratulations! That is awesome. I completed my T206 set last December, about 23 years after I bought my first T206. I am now trying to upgrade a few odds and ends (I actually just got 12 commons in the mail today). But my main focus these days is on Caramels. Be careful or they may grab you like the T206s did. Anyway, congrats again. It is a great accomplishment in the world of vintage baseball card collecting.

Congratulations! I hope to join your club in the next 1-2 years.

I bought my first T-206s as a kid in the mid-1980s at a live auction from an antique dealer at a fire hall. Then, I took about 10 years off, and then rediscovered the beauty of the cards. I still need 43 cards, but have Demmitt St. Louis and all backs except Ty Cobb back, and some oddities like red Hindu, brown Lenox, Broadleaf 460, and brown Old Mill. My cards are with few exceptions beaters (if graded, likely "authentic", 1's, and 2's). I, too, will be skipping Doyle, and likely Wagner and Plank (unless I get one by accident or win Powerball). Outside shot at Magie down the road (still kicking myself for passing one up for $800 several years back).

Again, nice job. I, too, wonder how many of us have this set (or are almost there).

need wagner & doyle, probably will never find a doyle and probably won't pull the trigger on a wagner, might have to trade for it.

took me about 6 years to complete it and all of the backs except ty cobb and brown old mill. was a neat set to put together in mid grade before the slabbing and higher prices took over. however i am tempted to put another together even in todays market you can find so many at fair prices in vg+/- on ebay that the bulk of the set could be put together very reasonably including most of the HOFers.

this is a set that anyone on a budget and with patience can have a great deal of fun putting together.

congratulations! a tremendous effort!

i particularly like the way you give your wife credit.
my wife is the same way---i get 206's for Christmas, birthday,
and for just surprises!
believe it or not, when we were at the shakespeare festival over
thanksgiving, i took 200 206's with me because we'd be away for
four days. don't worry, the cards were under lock and key. my wife and i looked at them one by one on 2 separate occasions while there
and had a blast. The Last Leaf by O'Henry was a close 2nd.

i know you will understand this.

Congrats on the Completion!!!!!!

I also got up to the (Big 6) this year. Still upgrading for presentation not necessarly grade.

When I finished mine I also asked how many board members had near complete sets. It will be interesting to see if any are added besides yours.
