Why authentic ?

This just came back witht he assigned grade. My ? is why ? The back is clean. What am i missing ?

Hand-cut cards are tough, from a grading standpoint.

On one hand, that's a beautiful card.

On the other hand, there's no way to tell when that right edge was cut - back when the card was initially cut off the strip, or ten minutes before it was sent in for grading.

If a T206 card has three nice edges and one ragged one, the ragged edge will bring down the grade. If someone were to snip off the ragged edge with a paper cutter, the card would be rejected as trimmed.

With a hand-cut card, if the card has three nice edges and one ragged one, it would be possible to snip off the ragged edge and have the card look perfect - when, in fact, it had been altered to improve the grade. But since the card is SUPPOSED to be cut, it's tougher to tell what the intent of the cut was - to separate the card from the strip, or to alter the card to improve the grade.

So if there are dotted lines, most of the time they want to see ALL the dotted lines.

I'm not saying I agree with it, but at least it makes sense to me.

If the cards came in a strip, how can each card in the strip have both lines? I thought they were supposed to be cut ON the lines. So if you want the Mathewson to get a number grade the cards next to it are now "authentic"?

I'm not the grading company, but here's what I would think:

The cards came 10 to a strip. That would mean that the 8 cards on the inside of the strip could potentially have lines on both the left and the right. The card on the left edge could only have a strip on the left, and vice-versa for the card on the right edge.

And if the card was cut with the dotted line visible on both sides, the cards to the left and the right would grade "authentic".

I guess.

Sometimes I see these graded and labeled "hand cut".

I suppose there's also a possibility that this card in question is short from top to bottom, but with hand cut cards I automatically think it's a L-R issue.
