Admiring a couple of sets.

I know some here don't like the registry sets and all that happens with them, but I just want to point out the fun I had looking through this set in the PSA Registry:

D304 Set

I especially apprecaite the scans. Wow. That Wagner and Lajoie cards in particular are absolutely amazing.

Out of the 25 cards in his set, only 3 are not the highest graded cards by PSA. The Wagner, Mathewson, Lajoie, Cobb are all PSA 8s.

To me, this is what makes the PSA Registry useful and enjoyable.


Not to be outdone, some sets in the SGC Registry sets are incredible too. One that I particular liked is the 1909 Philadelphia Caramel (E95) - Scott's Philly Caramels. He's got scans of every card...thank you!

Thanks for the compliment on my E95 set. It was put together/acquired long before there was such a thing as a set registry. I'm honestly not big on the set registry as a competition but enjoy sharing the scans with fellow collectors such as yourself.

It has to be the nicest. I'm surprised you haven't decreased the condition of the set by drooling on it.

unfortunately, not a lot of the PSA registry folks posts scans of their cards...especially the "big time" registry collectors. but, when someone does...it's a worthwhile exhibition.

I agree with nbrazil...sets without scans are just numbers. sets with scans make the registry worthwhile.

You hit upon the exact reason why I decided that I'd better have my E98 and E95 sets slabbed... to save me from myself and any possible damage I might cause by oogling them

Scott, can you share with us how you put together your sets? How long ago was it? Did they come as a set, or did you put them together card by card?

In the mid 1970s, before the hobby took off, my father and I were lucky enough to acquire two complete E95 sets (no doubles) and the complete E98 set (with only one double) which had been neatly stored away in empty Cigarette Packs.

I've paid my collecting "dues" by piecing together other sets but we were just plain lucky on these.

If you are curious, the other E95 set was in nearly identical condition and was sold off in a Sothebys auction back in the early 1990s.

No, it's not Keith Olbermann's set. This set belongs to Brian Seigel.
