Has anyone else had trouble accessing ebay tonight? I was trying to get on to bid on a lot ending at 11:09 and I never could open the lot's page. I tried on several computers and had the same problem on all of them. |

Consensus in the chatroom is that eBay is experiencing a "denial of service" meltdown. |

No luck here, either, no matter how you access a page. Oh well, I guess it'll save me money tonight. . . . |

That's the IP address. When you ping the address it should provide a response time to tell you how long it took for your query to hit the ebay IP address. Think of it as active internet sonar... |

Either ebay is getting hacked or they are experiencing some other type of problem (routers, server farm, power interruption - who knows). Even if they did get hacked I'm pretty sure that the stock will be somewhat stable unless the markets tank on their own. |

How do you ping an IP address and when you do what form will the response take and how do you interpit the response? There's a mouthful! |

Go to your START button (bottom left of screen) then select RUN. Type CMD in the run line to bring up a DOS prompt window. Then type PING 66.135.202.145 |

Usually the response time will be in the milliseconds. |

Ted-That worked. It responded "request timed out" four times but now it is doing nothing. How long does it take to give you the response time? |

Still down as of 12:15am EST. I imagine they'll somehow void all affected auctions and relist them in some way - maybe leave it up to the seller to accept the winning bid or not. |

It wont provide a response time unless it is able to get a return from the ping. |

Guys--thanks for the education. The last time I understood computers is when I designed a cash management system for Exxon's Treasury Dept. in 1974. A giant LP, all on computer punch cards. Now there's a term you will never hear again--key punch operator. |

No need to worry, folks. Cycleback.com is working fine and dandy. More than enough baseball players and fashion models to pass the time. |
