While looking over the backs of some new 1925-29 PC Back Exhibits I just received I noticed that one says "not to be used in exhibit machines" (just like every other one I've ever had) while the other says "not to be used in exhibit machine". Since both make grammatical sense, there may be a legitimate variation.

Does anyone else have one of these cards with the singular "machine" on the back?

The two that I just got in the mail today (Foxx rookie and Klein rookie) BOTH say "machines" plural.

I thought these were called "1926-29"... but you call them "1925-29"... so do you know something about a player shown on a certain team that makes these date back to 1925??

What else do you know about the set?

Did ALL of the cards first come out in 1926 (or 1925) and remain available through 1929 without changes or additions to the set??

That would seem to be the meaning of the hyphen designation: 1926-29

I think I answered my own question:

Chuck Klein didn't play at all until 1928... so it is highly unlikely that he appeared on any Exhibit card in 1925 or 1926 or 1927.

I guess he was added to the set in 1928.

does it appear the S was rubbed or scratched out in some way? or does it appear to be an actual printing omission (ala the '58 Hererra)?

On the other hand, Everett Scott retired about halfway through the 1926 season and is INCLUDED in the set...

which WOULD indicate that the FIRST cards from this set were issued in 1926.

Jimmy Johnston also retired after 1926 and is in the set.

AND...

Tommy Griffith retired halfway through the 1925 season and is included in the set!!!!

This would indicate that some of the first cards from this set were indeed printed in 1925.

I think a "1925-29" designation would be appropriate.

actually Woody Scharf wrote several on it. Best indications are that the first run started in 25 with changes thru 29 and printings maybe into 30
