Hi all. Does anybody have an idea what this is. It is too big for a knee or elbow pad. It fits the contour of a shoulder though. It also has a light early Spalding logo on it. Thanks, Mike |

You mentioned a shoulder pad? I am not a football expert by any means but it sort of looks like it would protect a shoulder, somewhat. Hopefully one of our resident memorabilia guys will know... |

It seems like shoulder pads would have come as a connected set but I just don't know. Mike |

Could it be a knee pad? |

I strongly concur with Knee Pad. It looks identical to the knee cap protection portion of a pair of reeded shins I have. But the original poster says it's too big for a knee pad... |

Hi Mark, It measures 4 1/2" wide by just about 8" long. I guess it could be a knee pad. Never thought about it as the elastic had seemed too loose. I actually just tried it on (probably weird but not the fist time putting on an old piece of equipment) and it is very loose. I guess the elastic could be worn/stretched out. It is odd that the elastic is sewn more to the upper side on the ends rather in the middle. My first though was football and something to do with shoulder pads but I just have never seen individual ones. I think your idea makes a lot more sense. Any guess on the time period. I was thinking 1910's/20's based on the little round Spalding logo. Thanks, Mike |

I bet someone here has a Spalding catalog with this item in it. |

Wow.... 8" long does sound too big for a knee pad. Perhaps it is football related. It looks like a very early item... circa 1920s or perhaps older. |

Larry - when you get a moment, post some scans of the Spalding dildo holders in your collection for comparison. I assume the one posted above is one you have already or do you need it for your master set? |
