I had never seen or heard of this rabbit before you pointed it out Clint, but a little Googling reveals that the rabbit was named "harvey" and was the idea of Charlie Finley in 1960 when He bought the A's. The little rabbit would pop up out of the ground when the umpire needed more baseballs. |

I wonder If I can get one for the house that has beer instead of baseballs? |

The idea for the rabbit was modelled after pint-sized Washington Senator Ernie Oravetz, who effectively did the same job in the minor leagues! |

According to "The Great American Baseball Card Flipping, Trading and Bubblegum Book", yes, he did! Who knows, they could have been joking. What a hilarious book. I reread that book so many times growing up that I wore out three copies. |

I can't believe I've never heard of that rabbit and they were using it up to 1980. There wasn't much baseball on TV back then though as all I can remember was WTBS showing Braves games and the occasional Monday Night baseball telecast. |

I just heard back from Nancy Finley. She said that the family still has Harvey. It's good that he's still around. |

I wonder if he was named after the invisible rabbit Jimmy Stewart saw in the movie "Harvey." |
