I am not planning on bidding on this but was curious to see what the board members thought. Interesting comparison between between the Old Judge cards and the picture. |

It's a cool picture, but I don't think it dates to "Old Judge" days, mainly because of the 1st-baseman's mitt that "Gunning" is wearing (looks early 1900's to me). In fact, three of the players are wearing mitts. |

I saw this one too. It looks to be a legit picture, but I agree with Scott that it's probably from a little later then the seller states. Gunning and Gleason both appear identical to the N172 photos and they are wearing Quakers uniforms. Anyone have any idea who the other players are? |

The form of photograph also looks much later as well...1910's or 1920's perhaps. |

The gloves don't fit the era and the belt buckle is also wrong for the era. The buckle was still an important thing in 1880s and no self respecting player would have his buckle on his side. |

What kind of photograph is this & why is it so small? You'd need a viewfinder to see the darn thing. |

First off, I don't think that is Gunning...it does look like Gleason. The era is definitely off. The gloves are wrong and the uniforms don't look right for that time. The caps of the Phillies around that time were almost always white even in pictures where they are wearing dark uniforms. Around 1886 the "Phila" logo is found on the front of the jerseys...I did not notice the belt buckle but will trust more knowledgeable people. The next problem is the team identity. He says Quakers...The Quakers formed in 1873 and was in the National Association. The team folded in 1875. The National League Phillies of which Gunning and Gleason were members started play in 1883. They did use the Quakers moniker again in the teens and '20s. |

The current Phillies franchise which started in 1883 was known as the Quakers till 1889.They kept the team name Phillies straight thru from 1890 till now except for a couple seasons during WW2 when they were called the Blue Jays. |
