Default Some (probably pointless) E-Bay Crusading...

Posted By: Aaron M.

So I recently ventured to E-Bay's discussion site and found that E-Bay moderators actually discuss category changes with their users. Seeing all these worthless "paper cutouts" gave me an idea to try and expose them by creating a seperate E-Bay category describing them as cutouts

Probably pointless, but anybody irked by these sellers getting away with it and E-Bay turning a blind eye can follow this link and "vote" in a poll I've created.

Sadly, even if a seperate catagory was created, they would claim that since their product is slabbed that they can justifiably list them in the graded sections.

God knows whether ebay will listen (why am I guessing "not"?), but if everyone from the board casts their opinion, it may be too big a groundswell to ignore.

Actually, they could be reported to E-Bay for misfiling their items in the wrong category--this would be especially true for those sellers who sell cutouts in high numbers.

It's like getting Capone for tax evasion.

Not the full-scale banning they deserve, but enough to get them off the street, so to speak.

As a cub scout we had paper drives to raise money. Most of these cutouts are just a tad above the paper we collected in the drives. Allowing these to be listed under baseball cards is indicative of incandescent ignorance or greed. I don't believe Meg Whitman is remotely ignorant. Meg if you read this please create a category for these cutouts somewhere near paper drives so that ebay baseball card buyers (some of whom are shareholders) don't have to waste one second of our time dealing with the cutouts that are absolutely NOT baseball cards. Thank you!

Sounds like a good idea to call it what it is. And someone on the ebay forum also suggested creating a separate category for reprints. That sounds like a good idea too. At the least, just like the proposed cutout category, this would provide fuel to punish sellers that mislabel.

IMHO there is only one way that ebay will decide not to do something - if that way is against their best financial interests. If somehow they perceive or realize that baseball card auction buyers and sellers could start more actively supporting other auction sites which will not allow cutouts, scammers, etc., thereby costing ebay revenue through decreased listings, only then will ebay "listen." Ebay for the most part has a virtual monopoly on 24/7 auction sales. Monopolies traditionally breed high prices, poor service and other negatives due to lack of competition. For lack of competition, ebay will allow these cutouts to be in the categories which make them the most money, not in the categories for the best interest of their customers. This of course only benefits them and the scammers who through deception attempt to turn worthless items into gold.
