Famous & Barr Co. Q?

Hello All,

I have a question about the rarity of a Famous & Barr back on a M101. Is it really that rare? As most of you know I collect Latin Player cards(Marsans is one of my favorites).

I thought I would have no problem getting this card with a bid of 2X SCD book value. No such luck!

Could have more to do with the player. Latin players, like Jewish players are a popular group to colelct, adn for Deadball Era players, he's at the top of the list.

In my opinion the Famous and Barr backs are not that rare. I think at any given time a Marsans card can fly high due to the Cuban nature. Of the twenty 22-23 different m101/4-5 backs I would rate it as number 3-4 easiest. good luck if you go for it.....regards

I do not believe F&B backs are all that rare for m101-5; however, m101-4 appears to be a different story. Unfortunately for you, Nick, Marsans is only in m101-5, so you could be competing against Latin/Cuban player collectors AND set collectors. Still, I've seen Marsans go for less than $60 at least twice in the past year in approximately the same condition, although I don't recall whether those were F&B backs (again, not that rare anyway).

This auction is interesting--strong money bid by 3 players with less than 5 feedback. I've been watching this and others from the seller, and I'm very curious about bidder t196h's bidding practices--he with a 1 feedback seems to be pushing alot of people's reserves on these cards, but other than Marsans, he never seems to top them. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

I thought something was fishy with these paticular auctions too. The low feedback bidders are a little strange. Nevertheless, I think the card's price has exceeded it's value. Which doesn't always stop me from buying!

I have a few cards from Marsans(cuban and T207)and I have also noted the inconistencies in his sale prices.I have seen his T207(in like condition)sell for $80 and $300 in seperate auctions. I have not convinced Leon to sell me his Texas Tommy Marsans, but I am working on it!

Seems "Jimfays" auctions are the favorite of "T196H",he has bid on 26 of his auctions only winning one.

Actually, of the limited number of M101s that I have, more than half are F & Bs (all purchased at different times and from different people). For what that's worth . . .
