On page 34 of the new SCD there is a T206 Wagner that Lelands bought at the National in Atlantic City. It's clearly trimmed but encapsulated as "Authentic" by PSA. I know this is done for high profile cards and for certain individuals because I've seen it before. Does anyone know if PSA or SGC will now provide this service? I know there was a discussion some time ago and the answer was no. I'm sure we all have a few cards in our collection that are possibly trimmed or altered that we just want to have encapsulated even for just display purposes without a grade.

And 2 nationals ago PSA had several trimmed slabbed T206's on display in front of their booth including a real nice wagner and NONE of them are marked as trimmed!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did the T206 Wagner have a Piedmont back, by any chance?

It doesn't say the back...but it does say the reason the card is trimmed is the guy who owned it trimmed it to fit in his wallet; he knew he had something special and carried the card around with him for 20 years....thus explaining its beat up shape.

PSA has been encapsulating cards labeled Authentic for the bigger dealers. I do not think that they are offering that option to the public.

I was not aware that SGC had ever holdered cards identified as "Authentic".

I believe that GAI will holder a card as Authentic if it is an important card.

On another note, it is sad that there are so many people who feel as Dan has stated in his post regarding PSA and their holdering of doctored cards. There certainly seems to be talk about the increased perception amongst dealers and collectors who are seeing more cards that are suspect of alterations that reside in PSA holders.

Until several years ago I rarely used to question if a card was altered within a PSA holder. This recent phenomena makes buying PSA graded cards sight unseen a little more of a risky prospect.

You expect that cards that are sold ungraded that look high grade have been doctored but now you have to use the same analysis when looking at PSA graded material. Having the card in the holder puts one at even more of a disadvantage too as you cannot inspect the card in the same manner that you can a raw card.

Hopefully this trend will discontinue and PSA will return to a less controversial grading company. Being the leader does not mean that you are the best.

But to be fair to PSA, I'm still waiting to hear from someone on the board about that slabbed OJ mini reprint that another grading company handled. Jay - do you have any info on it?

Maybe David Rudd will eventually convert his newest effort (nice, David!) into a "training manual" for slabbers.
