I published my fifth solo baseball book today. This one covers the 27 families that have played for the Pittsburgh Pirates. It's titled They Are Family, which is a play on the song We Are Family, which the Pirates played during their last championship season. It covers everything from Hall of Fame brothers to siblings who spent one day with the team. It goes from two cases in 1890 up until two playing for the team today. There are also close calls involving Hall of Famers Honus Wagner, Pie Traynor, Arky Vaughan and the Waners. It's 187 pages, with a chapter on each family. Price is $16.99 on Amazon. Thanks for reading. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FDG8NPDK
My other four books are linked in my signature covering one-game players, players who spent time with the Pirates but never played, the worst team in franchise history and the Dots Miller bio

Please check out my books on baseball history. They include the bio of star second baseman Dots Miller. A book featuring 20 Moonlight Graham players who got into just one game. Another with 13 players who were with the Pittsburgh Pirates during the regular season, but never played a game. There's also one about 27 baseball families, as well as a day-by-day look at the worst team in Pittsburgh Pirates history. All five can be found here: https://www.amazon.com/stores/John-D...hor/B0DH87Q2DS Last edited by z28jd; 08-09-2025 at 07:52 AM. |

Bump for the new month. Be sure to check out all five books in the link above. You don’t have to be a fan of the Pirates to enjoy these topics, especially the stories of Moonlight Graham type players and guys who were on the active roster and never played

Bump
Dots Miller should be a popular player here with the vintage crowd. The Unlucky 13 is a nice little book telling about 13 players on the active roster who didn't get into games. Some of the stories are wild. Others have a happy ending elsewhere, unless you're a Pirates fan who realizes that they gave up Red Faber for nothing. Moment in the Sun is 20 Moonlight Graham stories in one. The 1890 Pittsburgh Alleghenys season was one of the worst in big league history and I broke it down day-by-day from Spring Training through a post-season exhibition tour. They Are Family covers all 27 families that have played together for the Pirates. Everything from a pair of Hall of Famers to brothers who played two games in one day with the team, then never played pro ball again. Something for everyone. All are priced reasonably.

It's been two month, so I'm bumping this again to get some spending money for Christmas. Right now my budget will get my four-year-old nephew a 1977 Mario Mendoza Topps card. I'm hoping to improve on that gift..
Lots of pre-war players mentioned in these books
