Question When did Topps packs go from six cards to five?

In what year did Topps five cent packs in the States drop from having six cards to five?

I think it was around 1965. Someone answered this question about six months ago but I can't find his post now.

Hmm, I always thought thru the early 60s..it was 1 cent packs ( one card) or 5 cent packs ( 5 cards)

Looked on YouTube for pack breaks.

I know that by '65 it was 5 cards per nickel pack.

Found a '63 pack break with 5 cards, but found a '60 pack break with 6 cards - that surprised me.

Also found a '52 break with 5.

I’ll look thru my opened pack files. For the early 60’s, packs that did not contain an insert (usually series 1) had 6 cards then wax packs with an insert had 5 cards

I believe it shifted to 5 cards starting with the 1961 Topps set.

Ok looks like 1960 and 1961 had 6 cards per nickel pack. Starting in 1962 looks like Topps went to 5 cards (plus an insert) per pack. Note, I do have a record of both a 1966 series 1 wax pack and 1968 series 1 wax pack being opened that included 6 cards, both Sequenced perfect.
