Default Rip Fred Young (Goldenage50s)

I haven't seen this posted anywhere so I apologize if it already was. But I was just thinking about how I used to see Fred post auctions seemingly almost daily, and that he hasn't posted since late 2024. So I googled his name and unfortunately found this.
https://www.jjduffyfuneralhome.com/o...rederick-young

I didn't know him well but know many of you did and would like to know this. I liked reading his auction posts, they were funny, e.g. Bidding starts at the coveted $7 bill.

Rip.

I first met Fred back 20 years ago or so when eBay had a Sports Card collectors message board, which he was very active on..

He eventually introduced me to this board and we stayed in touch with each other until he sold his collection in '23. Great guy with a healthy sense of humor.

RIP Fred

Sad news. He was such a nice guy. When I started on net54 I participated in his auctions and bought cards from him. He was always welcoming and fun to have a conversation with.

RIP Fred

RIP. Did not know him but I remember he liked to list items in the auction format on here.

He obviously had a great card collection that he liquidated for his family while he was still here on Earth.

Very sorry to hear this. R.I.P. I also remember him on the eBay card group message board (he had a Don Mossi avatar from what I remember) and for his interesting BST posts.

Dang!

Fred was a great guy.

Like Bill, I had first met him on the ebay boards 20+ years ago and we became friends, emailing each other often, sometimes speaking on the phone. I forget which year now but we had bought and split a case of Topps Heritage, and I would sometimes buy older cards from him that I thought my son would get a kick out of and have him send directly to my son in college.

Once on my way back from a business car trip to Boston he met me up with me at a restaurant near his home, where I had my dinner before the rest of my trip home and he had a few beers. It was great to meet him in person and it was a fun way to delay the remainder of my trip to avoid rush hour going through NYC.

Fred was an early member of my Vintage Football Community (VFC), and I got to know him well. He used to dazzle us with stories about ripping open Bowman packs he bought in the early 1950s! I never got tired of listening to his stories about those days and his collecting efforts. I bought some cards from him as he was downsizing his collection and wish I knew which ones they were.

RIP Fred. The hobby will miss you.

He was always a pleasure to talk with!

But good to see he is still a somewhat active member here!

I didn't know Fred but from his obituary he seemed to have had a great long life. Can't ask for more than that. His handle Goldenage50s always stuck out to me for some reason. I dig it.

Dang, this is indeed sad news. Like many here, we knew Fred best and most frequently
in the old eBay Sports Cards & Memorabilia forum. He was always the friendliest and funniest guy
on that often contentious board. Condolences and sympathies to his family and friends.
