Default May Pick Up Thread

Been a while since I've started one of these...

Was lucky enough to pick up another 55 Killebrew for my rainbow, got a really nice deal on this 4.5. In fact, I got this cheaper than my 3.5 and 4! Nice when a better than good deal falls in your lap every once in a while.

I now have - 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 6

Crappy Ebay pic, I don't have it in hand yet. To be fair, the 3.5 I picked up here on net54 is still probably nicer...

Nice card, John. I've always liked the Killebrew rookie.

LCS pickup. It’s wrinkled, but the color and centering work for me.

Not sure why but I was compelled to pick up a Mike Shannon card at the Columbia Missouri show .
I guess it reminds me of the times before the Cardinals became a broken down circus

Yep, a pretty popular card even among non 52 Topps collectors. Fairly tough to find one centered as well.
Congrats on your pick up.

Finally was able to have a card show adventure and picked up just a few awfully cool things...

Never owned a 1963 Fleer Wills Rookie before, so this is a first for me. Got a nice price on the tough 1957 Topps #272 semi-high (and being a Yankee always adds a premium to it) Bobby Shantz.
And my complete absorption with the 1972 Topps set continues, as I added a pair of the sweetest looking (and incredibly well centered) Willie Mays and Carlton Fisk Rookie cards I have seen in quite a long time.

And saved for last on my way out the door, I chatted up a guy who was readying to pack up his table and he was kind enough to give me a sweet deal on this Mick...

I told him, "If you get a chance to buy a Mantle (at a decent price), you buy the Mantle."
He wholeheartedly agreed!

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

Nice 72's, Jolly. I remain infatuated with that set as well.

Went to not one, but 2 local card shows all within 30 mins driving distance yesterday - and believe it or not, had an option to do a THIRD, had I been willing to drive another hour. I digress, but let's just say this hobby of ours is alive and well...

Here's the highlights. "Authentic - Miscut" - er, ok but I'll take that all day long. Yogi clearly has some diamond cut or something going on, but is centered beautifully and otherwise I'm guessing would be a 3 or better.

That Maris is such an elegant looking portrait. Besides it being a major rookie card, it has always been a stand-out of the 1958 set.

Delicious pick up!!!

Went to the NTX Card Show this weekend, and I added a card I've been wanting for a long time. Decided to start a PSA set registry with it. Going to do 1950s-60s HOFer Combo cards.

100% agree...love that card and that example. It's hard to find a 58 Maris without the "snow"...mine has more than I like. Great card!

Elm...also love the 72's you pick up...you have a hell of an eye for that year!

Great card wdwfan...I've always loved that one too. Packed with iconic players. I didn't know there was a registry set for combo cards, super cool quest. Good luck on that journey! Lots of great examples. One of my favorites is the 58 Mantle/Aaron...
