This may have been done before ... many times possibly ....
But are there any vintage movies where a highly desirable baseball card is visible or even discussed? Not talking about a movie from the 60s or 70s or a modern era flick. But something from the 20s, 30s or 40s where someone is waving around a now vintage rare card? Last edited by Snapolit1; 09-29-2019 at 07:43 PM. |

Two old films I watched recently, Pride of the Yankees and Take me out to the Ballgame had cards in one scene each but they were prop cards. I watch a LOT of Turner Classic Movies and can't recall any other films with cards, real or otherwise.
OT from the intent of the post but I watched Rain Man again the other night and saw Dustin Hoffman's sweet '59 Frank Robinson which I had forgotten from seeing it many years ago. One of my fave's from that set.

The only one that came to mind was Pride of the Yankees. Babe Ruth...A Rookie! Classic line that cracks me up every time.
On another funny note, there was a one season tv show from last year named Reverie. They had an episode where a kid can't believe that this guy has a 1966 Roberto Clemente...except the card is obviously a 1968. The kid probably just forgot his lines, but nobody cared enough to catch it. |

Not an old movie, but certainly a classic...A Christmas Story. Early in the movie you see a T206 Reulbach on Ralphie's headboard. Also a Ty Cobb card, not sure which one.

I wish I could recall the short story but a few years ago I was reading through an anthology and there was a scene in one of the stories where a young kid on the street went around asking people for the pictures from their cigarette packs. I remember in the story he gets a Tris Speaker from a pack of Meccas cigarettes (T201).

It TV shows were included I'd say one of the episodes of Hart to Hart. They had a flipping contest before cards were placed in tombs known as slabs

I saw this episode for the first time about three weeks ago. I’ve been watching the show mornings on Hallmark. The opening montage caught my eye right away. It was so cool seeing those cards flipped. That was back in 1982 iirc. Long before slabs. Sometimes, the old ways are the best. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

When I was a kid in 1985, the movie Mask came out starring Cher. The baseball cards pinned to the wall was my favorite part of the movie.

Leave it to Beaver " Episode "Wally's Weekend Job "
When trying to pay for his soda, Gilbert empties his pockets on the counter and a number of baseball cards spill out. These are all Topps cards from the 1959 set even though the episode was filmed in 1961. The cards are #383 Words of Wisdom (Don Larsen and Casey Stengel), #392 Whitey Herzog, #416 Haywood Sullivan, #418 Gino Cimoli, #437 Ike Delock and #484 Willie Kirkland, all from the sixth series.

In Needful Things, a 1993 movie based on a Stephen King novel, a boy sells his soul for a Mickey Mantle. I believe it was a 1956. My soul is for sale or trade, but it will cost more than a ‘56 Mantle.

I’ll see if someone can guess the movie this is from before I post answer. IMG_7484.jpg |

Dick York was in an episode of Alfred Hitchcock entitled The Doubtful Doctor who goes 2 years into his past and his life is turned upside down. He has a scene where he purchases some baseball cards with some kids. He later returns to the present with wet baseball cards in his pocket. He had tried to drown himself. The cards are from the fifties
Also, the Post Cereal box in the Sandlot with cards and Mickey Mantle on it. I believe Doctor James McAvoy supplied the box for the movie. here is link with a picture. https://barebonesez.blogspot.com/202...363386212.html

I've never watched this 1919 silent era movie, "The Busher" so I don't know if there were any actual baseball players, or cards, in the movie. Here is an authentic lobby card that I have from that time. This was one of the earliest known movies featuring baseball as a theme.

Not a card, but a photo, and, um, not a movie, either, but a TV show...
but kind of vintage, so... this portrait photo of what appears to be Grover Alexander is seen quite prominently, and rather inexplicably, on the wall of a camera shop in a circa 1960 episode of Perry Mason...
