Default Will Justin Verlander get to 300 wins?

Justin Verlander says he feels healthy and still hopes to get to 300 career wins. He's 42 and currently has 262 wins so realistically will need to pitch 3 more years to get there. After winning 18 games in 2022, he won 13 in 2023 and 5 in 2024. Does anyone think he has a chance to get to 300? If he does, he might be the last pitcher to ever do it.

I would doubt Verlander gets to 270 wins.

Before he destroyed his career with violence toward women, I thought Julio Urias was a very solid contender to win 300 games. He has not pitched at all since he was 26, but he had already amassed 60 wins by that time. In his final three seasons, he won 48 games.

For comparison, Rich Hill is 44, has pitched in 20 major league seasons, and has 90 wins.

He’s too old and SP wins too rare for it to be anything but very unlikely. I doubt we see another 300 win pitcher without a paradigm shift.

Best case I could see him getting to 270-275. I'm assuming this is his last year and the Giants are not going to be super strong this year unfortunately.

No. And personally I think he's done. I'd be surprised if he's still on the Giants roster at the end of the year.

I would say half his value is teaching/mentoring the young Giants pitching staff.

Absolutely agree with that. And in that sense it may end up being a good investment for them.

It would take a miracle. I don't see it.

200 will be tough enough the way the game is moving.

What? I mean MAYBE he was on track mathematically but at age 26 I don't think you can possibly make a meaningful projection about career wins for any pitcher. Agree he had tremendous stuff and potential, but IMO it was too early to call him a "very solid contender" for 300 wins. Either way, awful trajectory he took.

Gerrit Cole should get to 200. He's at 153 now. Not sure who might be next after him.

Guys just below him are too old. Sale, maybe, he's apparently still in his prime, but he only has 138 wins. Looks bleak after that.

Youngest with at least 100 wins is Aaron Nola with 104 at 31.

Max Fried at only 73 surprises me. Other "names" are also well under 100: Robbie Ray, Blake Snell, Framber Valdez.
