Default Poll: Snapshot of buyer activity

Noting that Net54 members may not be entirely representative of the hobby, I was curious to get a snapshot of how often people are adding to their collections.

This is an anonymous poll.

Bid on something almost every day. Buy something almost every week. Sell stuff at 6-8 Chicagoland and Milwaukee shows each winter.

I bought a Wade Boggs card a few days ago but other than that it has been a few weeks since my last purchase.

My vote was last month just to be honest. Typically its every week or every other week but I made two big (for me) and unexpected purchases in early January that has me on the sidelines for now until the hobby budget catches back up.

I haven't bought much since last summer as helping my wife with her collecting has taken precedence. I am "currently" working on building 1967 Topps baseball and, as you might expect, am down to the last two series. I haven't been wanting to pay up for those cards lately, so I started working on 1974 Topps football. I bought a large lot of collector's grade cards last night.

Thanks for the responses so far. I am surprised that more than half of the respondents made a purchase within the last week.

On a perhaps related (or perhaps not) note, I get the sense that the baseball card market is getting more liquid. I've noticed decent bidding action on items that I'd consider mainstream, but generally not at all rare and unlikely to be investor pieces -- like non-rookie, mid- and low-grade postwar vintage. Suggests to me that there are a broad range of buyers out there looking to fill out their collections.

Which is probably good for the hobby.

Unfortunately most of the cards left on my list are high dollar cards or rare/scarce (1913 Jimmy Lewis please), so saving my pennies and buying quarterly seems appropriate.

I used to buy more often but now it’s really just when I see a good deal on something interesting. So maybe once per quarter.

-Typically purchase cards at least monthly. Currently saving up to hit the Front Row card show coming to Portland, OR in March.

I buy something from almost every auction that has my email address. Sell occasionally at a local card show to help fund my buys. All higher end stuff

I voted this week, large lot of 69-70 OPC Hockey. Been buying a lot of OPC Hockey lately.

Last pre-war was some T218s in December, pre-war baseball was some 1927 Exhibits in November. Been bidding but no luck.

My goal is to add some pre-war Baseball this weekend!

Since the poll implies a single point in a time, ie, based on today, a more interesting question might be: how frequently do you purchase items for your collection?
That might be interesting.

I've slowed down a lot of my buying and have been focusing on upgrading/buying bigger cards so I really only buy one or 2 cards a month now. I've only bought 1 card so far this year and it was from January's REA auction.
