I’ll start it off. Original concrete facade piece from Forbes Field. I estimate less than 10 of these still exist and I was excited to add this one since I sold off my complete arches a while ago. This is a heavy piece, 80-100 lbs cast concrete.

Wow that Forbes facade is an incredible piece! Rob I know you added to your amazing Giants collection! I will go with this as my favorite 2024 pickup. In order to obtain this Roberto Clemente game used bat I completed a large trade with the Clemente Museum. I paid dearly and let some pieces go that I never believed I could. Nonetheless those pieces I parted with are where they always belonged.

This U-1 is from 1965-68 and measures 36” and weighs 38oz. Roberto won two batting titles and an MVP during this period. It has lots of use and great patina. Clemente’s #21 is light but legible and he wrote a few details in pencil on the knob. Best of all he scored the barrel with many long groves that are clearly visible on the face of the bat. I met up with John Taube at the National and he gave it a PSA 9. I believe this is my nicest pickup ever.

Default 2024 Additions

This is probably my favorite find of the last part of the year...1970 Bench gamer from his first MVP year with a ton of use...will add a grade next year.

In addition to agreeing with Mike that Rob added worthy additions to this thread to his Giants collection, I don't expect to find anything better than this for my collection in 2025...

I absolutely love the Clemente bat!

I think my favorite pick up in 2024 was this autographed 1934 baseball from the Cardinals championship team.

Default Best 2024 Pickups

Great pickups all! Congrats!

I had a few nice pickups in 2024.
Here are my favorites:

* Johnny Vander Meer 7/12/42 shutout trophy ball from his collection.
He saved trophy balls from all 29 of his career shutouts including his two no-hitters.
This ball came from a 3-0 shutout against the Phillies.
13 K's and 4BB and was one of his top performances for strikeouts.

* Early vintage original stadium seat from Redland/Crosley Field.

* Lon Warneke 1941 no-hit pop up advertising piece (both pickups at the National)

* 1973 Nolan Ryan pinup test issue- PSA 8 (only one higher).
This one has always been on my want list- now in the collection

* 1915 Federal League ticket that could have been used for Alex (Miles) Main's no-hitter against the Buffed's

I think I had my luckiest year ever. A few very rare things I had been looking for (Colt 45s pennant, 49ers pennant, Giants PM10s), a few things I did not know existed (green Giants pennant, Santa Clara kicker pennant), something I thought would never be in my budget (NY Giants repco pennant), and a few things I never even really knew I wanted (Robinson and friends pins).

I was able to acquire some really cool items for each area of my collection:
  • Lou Gehrig 2000th Consecutive Game - Game-Used Lineup Card
  • Rickey Henderson Final Career Stolen Base - Game-Used Lineup Card
  • 1946 LA Red Devils Basketball Program featuring Jackie Robinson
  • 1940 UCLA baseball ticket. The earliest Jackie Robinson baseball ticket that I am aware of in existence
  • 1941 Baltimore Elte Giants photo with Roy Campanella
  • Ted Williams WWII Photos
  • Joe DiMaggio WWII photo

Although not especially valuable, these two pickups are special to me because they relate to Pete Runnels, who was my favorite Washington Senator when I was a kid:

- Framed 1951 photo of the Senators team signed by each of the players, including Runnels in his rookie season. Runnels is in the first row, far right. I need to remat this pic so that the entire image of Runnels shows.

- Framed display with a signed copy of the 1958 document regarding the trade of Runnels by the Senators to the Red Sox for Albie Pearson and Norm Zauchin. This trade broke my heart, but Runnels went on to have the 5 best years of his career with the Red Sox, which included winning the A. L. batting titles in 1960 and 1962.

Great stuff already posted here! Beautiful Clemente bat Mike. I can't imagine the pieces you gave up to add such a thing but it seems it was well worth it!

Running your hands over those grooves must be as close to time traveling as you can get. I suppose that's why we collect memoribilia. Getting as close to the time and players as possible and honoring the history.

Here are my favorite pick ups:

1950 Carribean Series official scorecards with the first games being autographed by the starting 9 including Willard Brown, Vic Power, Luis Olmo, and Dan Bankhead.

A scored program and ticket of Satchel Paige's three hit shutout on August 20th, 1948. It set the record for the most attended night game with 78,382. I'm thrilled the program also notes this.

This Doby, Miñoso, and Easter snapshot is from 1951 spring training. These three were forced to live apart from the team in Arizona. I love how happy they are in the photo despite still having to endure segregation outside of baseball.

There are a few that really stand out (all in the last few months). Here's one of them, 1896 Sandham Photogravure. It has been on my wish list for some time.

From one of the Official Scorer's at Camden Yards (who was assigned Cal Ripken Jr.'s 2130th Consecutive Game), his personal score sheets from that evening:

I won this snapshot of Roy Campanella in an eBay auction that closed on Christmas Eve. I was astounded to discover from the back of the photo that it was taken two days after Campy's major league debut.

I had a couple of 2024 favorites…

1929-31, Lew Fonseca game used bat. Fonseca was the 1929 American League batting champion and finished his career with an overall .316 batting average.

A very rare, 1930’s N.Y. Giants, 3/4 size pennant.

I never know if cdvs and cabinets count as cards or memorabilia, but since I posted three cards in the 2024 card thread, here are my three favorite photographic items of 2024.

That is about the most pristine pennant I have ever seen from that time period!

Thanks, Mark and Rob - I own a few pennants from that time period, but this one is definitely the nicest condition one I have, or have seen!

This ASG pennant. Don’t think that an earlier example is known to exist … anyone know? Also this Browns pennant that eluded me for many years …

Well Michael, you got another one of mine. The cdv top right was described as a Bates College player by Mark Rucker in his book. I remember it being in pristine condition.

Yes, it is a nice one and I believe it is the one from page 56 of the book. I now have two out of three of the Bates cdvs shown (I am missing the middle one).
