Appreciate that, Steve. In terms of photos in this auction many hail from two very special collections, both of which are packed to the gills with fresh to the hobby material. One of these collections we dubbed the Durham Find of Historic Baseball Photography because it is just that; an incredible find of significant Type I photos featuring multiple examples of Jackie, Ruth, Gehrig, rookie Mantle, Cobb, and the list goes on. Really exciting stuff if you’re into vintage baseball photography.
Not to bury the lead here but at the top end (our Lot #1) we’ve got a Type I photo of Ruth, Gehrig and Huggins shot by Louis Van Oeyen in 1927. It’s the only Type I example we’re aware of and very similar to a Type II that sold several years ago for $90k+. Just a phenomenal large format piece.
I’m always available to answer any photo-related questions you guys might have as we head into closing night on Sat. the 30th. Happy to discuss via PM or over the phone so don’t hesitate to reach out. Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!
