Great, wonderful auction. But the prices....dang. It's Good for the consignors and others who have deep pockets. All of the things I want are going to be expensive (to me).

That is how it works. And all of it will be purchased by other collectors.

.. Yup. Me too actually , now.
Gradually painfully downsizing virtually everything I've ever posted here in the last twenty years of the " Pick-Ups '. Not pleasant , believe me.
Stop by Howard's tables at the Philly Show next month . Help him pick me up off the floor everytime something sells.

Incredible consignment of cards in this auction. Even though a lot of cards are out of reach for me, it's fascinating to see how much a lot of these items go for.

Seems like this is the time for many Baby Boomers - retirement so sell 'em now. Can the younger crowd absorb all the stuff while paying "decent plus" prices?

The question should be "does the younger crowd want to absorb all the stuff"?

What is the demographic for true vintage collectors and people that gravitate to the new/shiny stuff?

There has to be a big crowd to absorb all the new/shiny stuff or a smaller very rich subset of collectors that pay through the nose for those limited edition offerings.

I guess we'll find out how many vintage collectors there are if/when prices begin to fall. But on the other hand, with so much money that's been pushed into the economy, maybe the lack of huge increase in prices is a sign that things are reversing in trend.

For now, these auction catalogs are great eye candy. It's fun to go through them.

Outside of the giddy world of REA, prices actually have been dropping for most cards, as I am seeing it. I'm not sure there's an inexhaustible demand that will sustain prices at least for the commodity cards of the world, even the more desirable ones. Rare pre war will always do well.

REA auctions separates the men from the boys. Young collectors are NOT buying the high end vintage stuff.
