Before anything else, my prayers go out to the victims and the families impacted by these two most recent hurricanes. I live in Fort Pierce Florida and just saw firsthand the devastation that can be caused by natural disaster. There are sections of this town devastated by tornadoes that look like a war zone. And this got me thinking .....
As we sheltered for the storm, my priority wasn't on my T206 collection and how would I keep them safe. Sure I have them locked up Waterproof, Fireproof, but that gun safe offers little protection against what we have been through. This got me thinking about anyone around me affected by the tornadoes with some really cool cards in their collection, North Carolina and the devastating floods that have washed out that area. Acapulco and the mudslides, the fires in Wyoming, the storm surge that just ransacked Tampa Bay. Life is precious and must be protected at all cost, so I wonder how many of these rare pop cards are lost during these events, when cardboard is the last thing on your mind. And for anybody who's wondering... I lost the back side of my roof, but I still have my Ty Cobb.

Hope the recovery works out as well as it can. Some hard yards ahead for a lot of people in Florida.

My heart goes out to all those affected. Just awful.

Hey Billy, I hope it's a smooth recovery for you and your neighbors down there and that it's the last one to come through for a long time.
Question: Do you have your collection insured as part of your homeowner's insurance? While I got an incredibly good deal in setting up that provision recently in relatively safe Illinois, I know insurance is a major fiasco down there, with insurers leaving the state altogether.

Guess I was fortunate in that I had no issues with either Helene or Milton. Helene caused more issues in our area with downed trees and broken tree limbs but no flooding in our immediate area. Milton appeared to be windier but we had no trees o branches down. St Augustine and Daytona had flooding but they always do. Now areas that were hit directly on the Gulf paid a price to the hurricanes. As to cardboard, I hope all survived as those are the kind of things that cannot be replaced. Hopefully all effected people will do okay.

Thoughts and prayers to all that are suffering from the storms, I'm continually impressed by the individual stories of heroism, sacrifice, compassion, and support by everyday normal folk in people's time of need during an emergency.

Yes, you hope that all the big guys of government entities, corporations, and non-profits do everything as efficiently and effectively as possible, but it's the neighbors and regular folks who do a lot of the heavy lifting, and do so selflessly.

Now that I am an official Floridian as of last month I have lived thru 2 storms already and fortunate to have minimal effects.
The resiliency of this country is like no other. I prey for the victims and thier families as mother nature has no enemy and the randomness of its paths truly makes you feel helpless at times |

Got lucky, minimal damage for me. Fence blown down, a little water coming in the living room and some siding torn off. Worst part was no power, they literally just turned it back on for our subdivision.

I guess you could always do what this Florida man did. He actually strapped down his roof to keep it from blowing off. I guess it worked.
